4 Secret Routines to Healthy Living

healthy living

Only last week, Mr. P woke up with acute stomach pain. The pain was so bad that the doctor recommended all the blood and urine tests. They also wanted to make sure it was not a case of stones which is apparently pretty common in summers. The final verdict was a gastritis attack because of eating out.

The lifestyle today has become like that. The office timings, hectic schedules, none of them are helping. The net result is one has to eat out at least one meal a day. The sweltering temperatures are also not helping the body to perform at its best. All of this results in health issues which can get serious if ignored for long.

Making changes in such lifestyle is certainly not easy. The lack of time and motivation and even lack of a measurable metric is a big deterrent. Healthy Living seems a dream unreachable but instead of waiting for an awakening call, it is best to take responsibility for your own health and start today. Small steps go far.

Secrets to Healthy Living

Wake Up Early

If I wake up at 11 in the morning, I know that my entire day is a waste. Whereas, whenever I manage to wake up at 7, I finish so many tasks without getting tired. Even if I do get tired, there is always an option of an afternoon nap or an after breakfast nap!

How to talk to your daughter about her first period?

How to talk to your daughter about her first period?

The first period is a sacred rite. In south India, families celebrate this passage into maturity with much pomp. But, does the girl really understand what is happening to her and what it signifies?

Twenty years back, my friend introduced me into the mysteries of womanhood. She used to share the whispers she had heard among her adult cousins. We were too young to understand what all it meant and as a result not ready for the change awaiting us.

None of our mothers had talked to us. On the contrary, my mother was herself embarrassed to talk to me. First time it happened, I discussed with my friends and after three days talked to my mom. She had not known how to broach the topic.

Times have changed since then. Lot more information is available and society itself has woken up to awareness regarding such issues. I am sure teenagers today do not find it as difficult to talk about taboos with their mothers now.

But, if you are still shy and do not know how to talk to your daughter about her first period, here are some pointers which might help you prepare for the interview.

Right Age to Talk

The kids are growing faster these days. The average age for the onset of menstruation has dropped from 12 to anywhere between 8 and 13. No doubt it is hard decide when it would be a good time to talk provided they are also too young to understand what it signifies. And, no butterflies stories either!

When your body feels tired and lazy all the time, it is time for you to wake up and realize lying around is not going to help you. And, the first step towards a healthy life is to self-motivate.

How do you really convince yourself to be fit and follow a healthy regimen including daily exercise and a balanced diet? Note that I say balanced and not strict diet. And, daily exercise can be anything from simple breathing exercises to high intensity workouts. But, anything would start with a first simple step.

For me, the biggest problem is self-motivation. I think most of the populace suffers from the same. So, let me put down a few things which I have been following for the last month. Starting off!

Do NOT Stock Your House with Junk

Like butter, chips, cheese, biscuits and all other junk foods which you are most likely to pick up when you are feeling hungry. I have stopped buying tea and coffee as well. Remember, I am off the caffeine right now?
