Skin dehydration is one of the major reasons why your skin looks dull and lacks that fresh and glowing look. This is a common mistake which means you do not understand what your skin needs. For an instant pick up, slather on a good hydrating lotion or serum.

Moving on, there a few signs that show your skin is dehydrated. Some are pretty obvious and some are not so obvious or you might fail to notice in the rush of your work. So, let me list them for you.

3 Signs Your Skin is Dehydrated

Feeling Stretchy

Your skin feels stretchy and this is the universal sign that your skin is dehydrated. Our immediate reaction is to slather on a body lotion or a moisturizer and drink loads of water.

As a matter of fact, drinking water barely helps with skin dehydration. It only helps with retaining fluids in the body. And, body lotions are only a temporary solution. What you actually need to do is address the deeper issue of why is your skin losing the ability to retain moisture.

Darker Skin

Most of the people take a dark looking skin as a sign for tanning. You should look out especially for the color of your lips. If they are looking darker than usual, it is a sure shot sign your skin is low on water and if this carries on for a long time, this could also mean you lack important vitamins!

In fact, it is also a sign your body is low on fluids so gobble up some water and slather on a hydrating serum and you can see the difference immediately. But, the question still remains – Why?

Scales on Skin

This might not be with everyone but most of the time for people with extremely dry skin, it is quite easy to see the scales or rough texture of the skin more prominently. Notice this the next time you wash your face or have a shower.

Your skin will be plump and if you do not follow up with a moisturizer, the texture of your skin will immediately start showing up in fifteen minutes or so depending on climate and your body’s ability to retain moisture. Again, the answer is simple – slather on a lotion or a moisturizer.

Now, the question remains – Why Your Skin is Dehydrated?

Remember my post on lipids? Well, lipids are the natural barriers on our skin surface which are responsible to retain the moisture in the skin.

Due to age, lifestyle, pollution and environmental stress, these lipids may lose their ability to function effectively and retain moisture to keep the skin plump. In fact, interestingly one of the major causes of dry skin is hard water.

Did you also know your medications are another reasons your skin is dehydrated and dry in which case there is not much you can do except for cosmetic substitutions. Make sure you moisturize your skin every single time you wash it or even in a couple of hours regularly.

To avoid these kinds of damages to the lipid layer of the skin, it is advised to replenish fatty acids in the body through nutrition, moisturize the skin immediately after shower, using gentler cleansers and avoiding hot and long showers.

Also, if you feel your skin has been getting too dry lately, it might be because you are not exfoliating it enough. To avoid this problem, try dry brushing!

To address the issue of ensuring lipid protection for our skin, it is essential to feed skin with the vitamins, especially B complex and application of topical hyaluronic acid and vitamin C which will keep the skin hydrated for a longer time. Regular application of the products improve the skin quality and the ability of the skin to retain moisture.

So, what is your favorite hyaluronic acid serum and vitamin C serum? Share in the comments below!

Till then, ciao.

Nice and informative post. After reading, now I can remember, sometimes my skin tends to get dry and dehydrated when I haven’t exfoliated for a long time. But I just keep applying body lotions thinking that will hydrate my skin…
