Why is an RO water purifier not good enough?

Swathy · January 25, 2016 · 8 Comments

And, why I suggest you to get PureIt Ultima RO + UV with Oxytube Water Purifier instead?

pregnant lady and drinking safe water

When we had shifted to a new house last year, one of the major concerns was clean drinking water. We were counting the cash because we had already spent so much on the expensive furniture and our health took a backseat!

We actually calculated if a water purifier was really worth the money. I know it sounds crazy, especially when one is comparing good health and expense. We should have probably compared the hospital bills. When we were considering out water purifier options, I had never thought ro water purifiers in India worth the money. There is almost a 10:1 ratio of water wastage and none of the houses have water recycling mechanisms.

Just for the record, we are still subsisting on the dubious mineral water bottles delivered once or twice a week by the shopkeeper next to my house. Do not make the same mistake! There are so many water-borne diseases alone like cholera, typhoid, diarrhoea, Hepatitis B and E, the list goes on.

But, now we are planning to begin a family. And, guess what I found out? Drinking purified water is extremely important for a pregnant lady, not only for herself but also for the baby.

Why You are Not able to Get Rid of Tea or Coffee Addiction?

Swathy · January 18, 2016 · 5 Comments

coffee on bed

Twenty days into the New Year and my goals have all disappeared into thin air. This year I had made a decision of sticking to publishing on all days of the week. And, I have already defaulted twice. Another goal was to take care of my health and be active. A big problem in this area is my caffeine addiction.

I have become a huge addict of tea specifically in the last one and half year. I have to have a cup of tea twice a day or may be once more though my coffee addiction is way under control. I like savouring my beverages and, just like the Japanese, my tea time is very sacred for me. It is a ritual rather than a habit. A ritual which I have to leave on grounds of weight loss as well.

So, How to get rid of the Tea or Coffee addiction?

You Have Skipped the Caffeine Altogether

But, since it has become an addiction, I want to get rid of it this year. So, I have stopped taking coffee and tea altogether. And, now, I am facing the caffeine withdrawal symptoms.

If you are an mid-morning or an afternoon junkie, cutting down tea or coffee at that hour is very difficult and you will revert back to the habit. Do not start cutting back on those cups initially.

How Many Calories do we Need? – Diet 101 {Part II}

how many calories do we need

The last time I was here I gave you a background on diets and what it actually means to eat healthy versus the latest fad diet. That’s all well and good but in continuation, how does one actually go about this whole seemingly complicated process. Well, a little bit of hard work is in order, but I promise you, after the initial bit of effort it does get easier.

How Many Calories do We Need? Let us do some basic Math.

Calculating the amount of calories you need to consume is totally individual. The best option if you’re starting out is to find a calculator online, which will give you numbers based on typical algorithms using your current weight, height, age, gender etc. In general, the recommended calorie deficit is not more than 500 – 700 calories per day, though this could vary a little.

This means that if your current calorie maintenance level (the number of calories you need to maintain your current body weight) is 2500 per day, you should eat 2000 per day. That takes your weekly calorie deficit to 3500 (500×7), which according to standard calculations equals 1 lb or 0.5 kg of weight loss per week. If you are close to your recommended ideal weight (within 5kg), I suggest creating a still smaller calorie deficit of around 200-300 calories only.

It is literally dangerous to your health if you restrict your calorie intake drastically. Remember what I said earlier about how your body burns calories just to make all your organs function. This is the reason why anorexia can be life-threatening. When the body is deprived of sufficient nutrients over time, the organs can actually suffer and even fail in the long run.

For women, it is recommended to eat no less than 1200 calories per day and for men not less than 1500 per day. And, even that I would say is less than the average person should consume, unless you’re a very tiny, old, inactive lady who needs only the bare minimum to function! So don’t use 1200 as a baseline regardless of your current size and activity level, most likely you need to eat significantly more than that even if you’re on a deficit.
