Do you not hate when you buy beauty products and they do not do what is expected of them? It hurts worse when they are so expensive! These are a few beauty products I have been using for the past few months, both expensive and inexpensive, which sucked for me, literally. So, lets start.
Forest Essentials Facial Cleanser Mashobra Honey, Lemon & Rosewater
Price : Rs 1,075 for 200ml
I have already reviewed this product but that was way before my skin care troubles. And, that is when I realized the face wash was not really cleaning my skin properly.
So, yes, it is a bad face wash for evening and clogs the pores. I would say avoid all the face washes from natural brands. Seems like a universal problem.
Neutrogena Extra Gentle Cleanser
Price : Rs 499 for 200ml
Similar to the above face wash, this product was too gentle for a deep cleansing routine. So, again a huge disappointment from a brand which usually does not fail.
Vichy Purete Thermale Micellar Water
Price : Rs 990 for 200ml
Again a huge expense but I did not find this miracle makeup remover to remove anything in just one go. You need several swipes of this liquid on the face and most of the product gets soaked up in the cotton itself.
I felt that this causes a lot of product wastage as compared to its effectiveness and you end up running out of this faster than you get the worth of it. And, I do miss the massage which goes with cleansing balms and milk.
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Dynamic Hydration Serum
Price : Rs 1,850 for 30ml
I have been using this product for quite sometime now. But, I have to say that as much as I was excited for this product, it fell a little flat for me. It has silicones for the starters which I do not really mind but the product feels too silky and artificial on skin.
It does hydrate the skin for almost a day depending on your skin type but somehow I am not very satisfied with the product. I am just trying to finish it up. Way too expensive for what it does!
Kaya Anti-Ox Vitamin C Formula
Price : Rs 1,890 for 30ml
The first vitamin C serum which I tried after doing a lot of review online. It has great reviews and seems like working for everyone except me. In fact, for me, I feel it ruined my skin.
My skin became dark and dull and very clogged after using this product. It does not have silicones and the product is very watery but still it feels heavy on the skin. I am absolutely not happy with it.
I have one more bottle to go and I shall review the product properly after using the second one. Hopefully, it might work then. But, for now, if you are considering to buy it, I would say stop and look around for another product. And, it is expensive too!
Vichy Aqualia Thermal Night Spa
Price : Rs 1,690 for 75ml
It has been hardly two times I have used this product and I hate it. It is expensive and thick. It sits heavily on the skin and has no results whatsoever. And, worse still, I have the Laneige one which I love to and this one does not compare at all with that. I would not suggest this product to anyone.
Aroma Magic Mineral Glow Scrub
Price : Rs 160 for 100ml
Not a very expensive product but I have read rave review of this online. And, being the first Aroma Magic product I used, I was expecting something different if not extra-ordinary. The scrub is very gritty just like baking soda which is harsh on the face.
I felt it stripped my skin, even the arms and not only face and neck. Now, I use it only for my feet. I would say you should not use such a harsh product for exfoliation.
Forest Essentials Hand Pounded Organic Fruit Facial Scrub
Price : Rs 1675 for 50gms
One of the most revered scrubs online. Unfortunately, I found it to be just a home made paste of sugar and dates. It is good at exfoliation and gentle enough on skin but then so is regular sugar and way less expensive! I would just say that it is not a bad product but I was expecting a little more at that price.
May be its just me but I think it is over-hyped. Anyways, I shall do a complete review for this once I finish the product completely. I have been using this for some months but I would like to wait and see what I feel by the end.
SKII Facial Treatment Mask
Price : ~ RM 150 (I do not remember the cost exactly, bought it in Malaysia)
It comes in a pack of 6 sheet masks and is supposed to be one of the most amazing beauty products in the world. I had bought it on the recommendation of one of my favorite bloggers but unfortunately I did not find it doing anything at all for my skin.
May be I am just too young for this product or my skin is already great at hydration so it did not show any difference whatsoever. A better option against this is to get the serum from SKII which has the same formula as the mask and that would at least last longer as you can use it everyday.
I have still two masks to go. Let me see if I notice any result and I shall report back. This is why I say sheet masks are way too expensive and do not do much.
Cetaphil Dam Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion
Price : Rs 300 for 100gms
This is supposed to be for dry to very dry skin but I found it very sticky. Also, I have to keep on reapplying it but it does not really solve my dry skin issue. And, it is sticky so you can not reapply it. I am not very happy with it and I ran out of it like water. It is not meant for body. May be you can use it like a hand cream.
A better alternative to this one is St. Ives Mineral Therapy body lotion. Amazingly hydrating and you can apply it as many times without feeling sticky.
Kerastase Nutritiv Bain Satin Shampoo – Kerastase Resistance Volumifique Conditioner
Price : ~ Rs 1500 (for shampoo) / Rs 2000 (for conditioner)
This shampoo conditioner duo have to be the worst beauty products I have ever bought and such a huge waste of money.
The shampoo made my hair and scalp dry, my hair was always tangled and so much that I once cut it off in frustration. No amount of leave-in serum would take care of it. It consequently developed split ends and became very peach-like. I have yet to get a hair cut to undo the damage and start afresh.
The conditioner was even worse. It made my hair straw-like and extremely rough. No help with conditioning in any way whatsoever. Just to be fair, the guy did warn me not to get this product! Should listen to them!!
Just bad hair overall. I do not have anything else to say. In fact, I could not continue using them and threw them once I finished with the shampoo. Should have done that earlier!!
Which beauty products do you like among the above? Have you come across any beauty products which you have been dying to buy but they failed to live up to your expectations? Are there any beauty products you would not like to recommend ever? Share your list below!

It definitely hurts when a product disappoints you and too gentle face washes are just too much…

so true, Mariyam!

Aah, finally the post about the fails!! I too had issues with face washes, my skin is sensitive to sulphates (I develop dry yet oily itchy red patches that spread), but the mild ones never seemed to clean my face well enough, especially in summers. Finally I went back to an old favourite- the Garnier with lemon essence since it didn’t have SLS yet cleansed my face well. Will definitely be keeping away from these duds!!

I am currently trying out the body shop vitamin e cleanser. Let’s see how it is. Liquid Neutrogena also did not impress me. Also, innisfree brand looks good. M thinking of trying out face wash from that as well. Wow, SLS does react quite strongly for you. It’s so hard to find just one good face wash!

I have used two of the cleansers you have mentioned and they have worked for me. I need something gentle as my skin in sensitive.

Haha. It’s absolutely subjective Sangeetha. Some products work so well for some and for others they just don’t which makes it even difficult for readers to ascertain which one to buy and which to skip 😀 Glad to know they worked for you. I forgot the other one. One is forest essentials. Can you share which is the other?
