#OneMonthtoHealthyHair Challenge – How’s my Hair doing?

Swathy · January 28, 2015 · 10 Comments

Can you guess the products? I love how it adds a pop of color to my shelf!!

So, let me state three things which happened in the last week!!

1. I have been wanting to change my shampoo since quite long now – either the shampoo I have been using has stopped working or my hair needs a change or I am just too bored of using a single brand for more than two years. And, I had been seriously considering trying the two brand ranges which have been reportedly doing well for many!
2. I am prepping the hair for the #OneMonthtoHealthyHair event starting March 1st!
3. And, then, I get a mail from a brand about a hair challenge they are conducting. I have to use their products for one month and report back! Incidentally, this range is one of the brands I had been seriously considering so I said yes!
So, the first step in the activity is to detail out on the present condition of my hair!!

My Biggest Hair Problem!

I have dry curly hair which tends to develop lot of splits if not cared for regularly, and by that I mean ever week!! And, it does tend to get a bit rough sometimes like it did these winters which is the major reason why I had been thinking of changing the shampoo.

Also, it is possible that it has developed a product build-up so if you think your hair is going through the same phase, try out vinegar. Add a table spoon to the shampoo and then continue washing your hair!! Result – Bouncy and Shiny Hair.

Split Ends?

It has been again 3 months since I did my hair diaries post. I should have kept up with it! So, I had my hair cut in September and my hair did grow back but again a lot of split ends have developed. So, yup, hair cut is pending!!

Hair Fall, Weak Roots?

I remember that it was November when I used to find so much hair in my comb. Thankfully, it has reduced now. But, itchy scalp still persists! No, I have not yet tried the essential oils. But, tea tree and rosemary essential oils work for itchy scalp!!
Okay, I do not suffer from weak roots but for those who do, please remember that proper balanced diet is extremely important. Include a lot of protein in your diet and regular scalp massages help with improving blood circulation and improves the scalp conditions.

Frizziness, Dry Hair, Undernourished Hair, Rough Hair?

Due to the winter-y dryness, the hair has developed static and has become a little frizzy but regular after wash hair care does help with that!! Try to use 5 drops of rosehip or pomegranate oil. Even almond oil can help.
Hot Oil Treatment has been helping a lot to control dryness and rough hair! Also, eating a lot omega 3 helps with hair dryness so do not forget nuts and other dry fruits.

Dull Hair?

Curly hair, by default, lacks shine. So, yes, it is more prone to dullness. I, too, suffer from the same problem.

Summary

So, I shall be reviewing the product on the grounds of split ends – not getting more of them (remember that existing split ends can NOT be repaired), dry hair – soft and healthier hair and, if possible, shinier hair as well.

So, that is my hair condition right now. Let us see how much the product helps to improve it! And, by the way, you might have noticed I have blacked out the product name. So, can you guess it? Would you also like to take the hair challenge? Do share your hair condition in the comments below!

hair tangles and how to avoid
photo credit: josstyk via photopin cc

Once upon a time I used to face this problem. That was the good time of my hair but then my hair was dry and rough and extremely curly so they used to get tangled!! Climate had a lot to do with, though. But, the hair care regime could have solved the issue, had I known it then. Though I do not have the hair I used to, any more, hopefully these tips will help you. So, lets us see what all could be the reason for hair tangles.

Climate and Clothes!

As I mentioned it above, this is the first reason why your hair might be tangled. The weather, especially when it is winters, can be extremely drying for hair. Also, the woollen clothes create a lot of static in the hair which ultimately leads to tangled hair and rough ends.
#Solution – Cover your hair in silk or satin scarf so that it does not get exposed to the cold and does not get tangled or dry!

Dry Rough Hair

So, as I said dry and rough hair are most prone to tangles, no matter the length of the hair. Dry Hair suffers from lack of protein and nourishment. And, because of that it appears lifeless and has no shine!! Dry Hair can be genetic or even happen due to lack of care.
#Solution – Find out a good shampoo for Dry Hair, apply loads of Conditioner every time you shampoo and weekly Deep Conditioning treatments go a long way towards restoring healthy hair.

Curly Hair

Well, curly hair and dry hair go hand in hand but even then this had to be a separate point. The follicle decides whether and how much your hair would be curly. Compared to straight hair, curly hair ranges from fine to thick and coarse textures and is more prone to dryness. Also, because of the curls, the hair gets tangled easily.
#Solution – Using the conditioning products and leave-in products to create well-defined curls which do not rub against each other causing friction and entangle with each other.

Using Harsh Products

Now, why does your hair dry up? First is diet but the second most often reason is using the wrong products!! We all make those mistakes. So, it is good to start with finding out which products might suit you.

While I say this often that SLS/SLES products should be ditched, I would like to mention that this might not necessarily be the correct approach. Sometimes over the counter products suit us very well in which case it is always good to stick with the same product. Unnecessary experimentation of different products can also harm the hair.
#Solution – Next time you are getting a hair product, try to use a trial version to make sure it is suiting you. Also, get the products according to your hair type as curly hair or damaged hair need more conditioning where as colored hair shampoos are gentler on hair.

And, not following Good Hair Care Rules

Simplest answer to tangled hair can be not handling your hair properly. Too much flipping the hair, too much of combing or brushing or not combing at all, leaving the hair open all time, leaving hair open during bike rides or travelling, not covering hair in pollution, trying out intricate or unfriendly hair styles, using cheap and unfriendly hair accessories, all of them can lead to tangled hair.
#Solution – So, next time you fiddle with your hair, do remember that it can be bad for your hair and avoid it. Also, using a silk or sating pillow cover can do a lot in avoiding your hair to get rough or tangled or frizzy in the morning so follow healthy hair tips and get beautiful hair! Also, condition a lot.

So, now it is your turn. Do you have a hair prone to tangles? If so, what is your reason for it? Is your hair dry or curly or you use the wrong hair products? Or, may be you just fiddle around a lot with your hair? Do you think there are other reasons why your hair is getting tangled? If so, do share in the comment below. And, yes, do not forget to join me on fb for the Weekly chat on 6th Jan at 12:00 noon to discuss on “Fitness Resolutions and Health Routines”.

Love Long Hair Range – Update III {Product Review}

Swathy · March 10, 2014 · Leave a Comment

the blind test for Love Long Hair Range at Perfect Skin Care for you
So, I am back with the more advanced and in-depth review on the product. Let me start with the texture. Both the conditioner and the shampoo are white in color and creamy in texture. But, conditioner is not that creamy as much as one would like especially if they have dry hair!
A dollop of shampoo when I squeeze the bottle is enough for two washes for my hair. I always dilute my shampoos with water and even then the shampoo lathers conservatively and removes the oil without you realizing it. When you are gonna apply the conditioner, the hair might feel a bit stringy and oily but that is absolutely fine. After it dries off, there is no oil in the hair!
I have used the shampoo once without oiling my hair and no conditioner either. The hair was soft and shiny. I did feel, though, that the scalp was left a bit dry. So, its better to shampoo after applying oil. Also, I am not sure but my hair might have been left a bit drier without the conditioner.

Oh btw, I have not talked of applying the conditioner. You squeeze the bottle and get a dollop of conditioner but when you are applying it on the hair strands, it just disappears and becomes watery and does not give you the creamy feel like other conditioners give. It gets washed off very easily without leaving any slimy feel behind or without using a lot of water.
And, my final use before publishing this review was today morning. I was in a hurry so I did not apply the conditioner for that long but used the rosehip oil as a leave-in afterwards. My hair is, sadly, feeling a little dry and not so shiny which is really sad. Anyways, once I use the entire product, I shall update my final verdict in the hair diaries.
For the bloggers who tested it, did you like the products? And, for others, are you excited to know which brand is it? It is gonna be unveiled pretty soon 🙂
