Soulflower Grapeseed Oil {Product Review}

Swathy · January 22, 2014 · 4 Comments

I have been using this oil since quite long. Earlier I had been using it just for the hair as a leave-in serum but in December and Jan, I had been using it as a moisturizer as well. So, how did this work out?

Price : Rs 350 for 30ml

Availability : Amazon

Ok, let me first talk about the texture of this oil. Grapeseed is supposed to be one of the best oils for the oily skin because of its lightness. Thus, it works amazingly as a leave-in serum without weighing the hair down. I had also put couple of drops of rosemary essential oil into the oil.

Since my hair is dry in texture, I can say it worked fantastically for me and there were lesser hair splits than normal. Just a drop or two of the oil rubbed on the palm and finger tips helps control the dryness of the scalp and hair!! And, it also helps with controlling dandruff and stimulates hair growth which was my main motivation to buy it!!

Regarding how it works on skin, I used it in the months of winter so it was absorbed quickly into the skin. And, needless to say, it was quite non-greasy and it did keep my skin moisturized all the time. In the harsher winters, one might need a layer of another moisturizer to keep the skin from drying but for Hyderabad, this oil sufficed quite well.

Also, I have noticed now that I have stopped using the oil, my skin has become dull. I have not been using sunscreen since almost three months and this oil had protected my skin quite well against the sun damage. My skin was bright enough and did not look dry or aged. But, now it has started looking a bit like that and the lines under the eyes have deepened as well. So, yes, it does protect the skin pretty well.

Clear Nourishing Scalp Care Anti-Dandruff Shampoo {Product Review}

Clear Nourishing Scalp Care Anti-Dandruff Shampoo Product Review

As you all know that I have been using an SLS-free shampoo since like 6 months at the least, using an SLS shampoo was something I was not very comfortable with but I had received it for review so I had to do it. And, generally, anti-dandruff shampoos tend to be quite drying.

So, let me start by saying that I think this product was not very drying. I did take care of my hair by regularly massaging the scalp and using scalp and leave-in treatments but sometimes I just got too lazy and did nothing to my hair except washing.
And, suffice it to say, my hair was in a good condition though a little frizzy. But, that it is to be expected when you do not use conditioner or anything, right? I do have curly to wavy hair and nope, no increase in split ends either. The texture of the product is very creamy and it did not feel very harsh on the scalp.
My scalp also did not feel really dry or anything!! I can not really say that how it affects dandruff since I do not have any but overall, my experience with this shampoo (at least twice a week for a month) was fine only. So, yes, this can be a good choice if you are looking at over the counter shampoos.

From the Archives : Hair Tips for Monsoon {Hair Care}

Swathy · July 20, 2013 · 13 Comments

PS: Even though this is an old post, the introduction holds true for this year as well 😀

I am loving, adoring and blissfully bathing in Hyderabad weather after the sultry Delhi 🙂 Ok, yes, it is humid and that does increase the suffocation at times but the cool breeze in the evenings and the lovely rains are just too romantic too ignore!!! But, then, monsoons always bring a spate of hair problems with them.

PS: I have nominated Perfect Skin Care for you for Indiblogger awards. If you like the post and my blog, please go on this link and write your reviews about the blog and make the blog one of the winners! You will have my undying gratitude 🙂

Humid Hair
The scalp gets all dirty very soon even though the pollution is in control. The reason for this is because of the amount of humidity which accumulates the dust and sweat in the hair and makes the scalp dirty very quickly. So, hair wash should be frequent, preferably on alternate days and you should always make sure to leave your hair open for at least an hour everyday to let the roots and the scalp get some air through them and get dry.
If you get wet in the rain, let your hair air dry and then go for a hair wash. Immediate washing is generally not preferable as it may lead to diseases and illness.
  • Hair Fall: This is the most common problem of hair in monsoons and even I can see those effects. One way to control it is to keep the hair and scalp always clean as mentioned above and to keep the hair always dry as even a little wet hair is also prone to a lot breakage. Do not comb your hair immediately on returning home after a long day. Leave your hair untied for a good half hour to an hour and let it dry thoroughly before running a comb.
  • Dandruff: Even though the weather is humid, the scalp can dry out easily because of the climate changes and weather fluctuations. And, that can lead to a lot of dead skin being accumulated on the scalp and leading to dandruff issues. This also contributes to hair fall in the monsoons. Ultimately, this issue can also be resolved by keeping the scalp and hair clean and dry at all times.
Hair Accessories
Avoid using scarfs and stoles to keep your hair protected from rain or even pollution. Because, lack of air circulation causes the sweat to get entrapped and accumulated on the scalp. Instead, carry an umbrella to protect you in sudden rains. And, pollution is anyway in control in monsoons so don’t worry about that. Btw, it may be necessary for you to wash your hair everyday at times. Go ahead and do it. Only make sure that you use a good quality shampoo, preferably a high-end brand or an SLS-free shampoo like Organic Surge.
Keep your hair tools clean and dry
Clean your comb, hair brush and even the scrunchies and hair clips you use as they gather the sweat when you use them on dirty hair!!!
