Do you take care of your body? {Body Care}

Swathy · June 17, 2010 · 3 Comments

Everyone wants to look beautiful and young. But, have you thought that how other people perceive your skin? I am not talking about your face or your looks. I am talking about the quality of skin. Everyone takes a lot of pains to keep their face skin young and youthful. But, what about the skin on your body like your neck, arms, legs or tummy. Do you take the same care of your body as your face. If you have noticed yourself closely in the mirror, you will find that your face looks younger than your body and gives your age away or makes you look much more older than what your age actually is. The thing I want to convey is that anti-aging skin care is not just for your face but also for your body.

Your arms or your neck give your age easily away as they are more neglected during skin care and do a lot of our daily work too. So, the skin on these areas get thin and flabby. Have you ever thought of taking care of your these parts of the body? Have you ever bothered to get rid of the extra fat and flabbiness on your thighs or midsection because it makes you look many years older probably add a ten at least. If you take care of your body as well as you take care of your face, you would look younger and natural. And, then you can take easily 10 years away from your actual age and stay that way forever. So, next time you think of a facial, give your whole body a facial and do not forget to get an hour exercise everyday or ever alternate day. That will keep your body in check.
A great tip to keep your body young forever: Give yourself massage at least every week with natural oils like coconut, almond or olive oil.

Masoor Dal Body Scrub {DIY}

Swathy · April 16, 2010 · 173 Comments

Pulses in our kitchen prove to be good scrubs as well. Earlier, I had talked about ‘Mung Dal’. Today, I would be talking about ‘Masoor Dal’ (Red Lentil). Ground red lentil is a very good scrub for the body.

How to make the scrub?
Grind the masoor dal into a fine powder and pass through a utensil with small holes (percolated utensils) to seperate the fine powder and the impurities. Store the fine powder in an air-tight container and use a little occasionally. If you find that the texture of the powder is too harsh for your skin, you can mix it with cornflour or chickpea flour (besan).
Using the Scrub
  • Mix it with honey or milk and use as body scrub while in shower.
  • Use as a face scrub twice in a week for oily and combination skin and once for normal to dry skin.
  • Alternatives: If you do not want to store it as a scrub, you can soak a cup of red lentils in milk or water overnight and make a paste in the morning and use it as a scrub or a face pack. You may even add the skin of almonds soaked overnight. It would make your skin glow like never before.
  • You can even mix the powder with pure ghee (made at home) and use it as a scrub. Pure ghee acts as lubricant reducing the harshness of the scrub on your skin and simultaneously nourishing it with the necessary fats to make skin look beautiful.
  • You can mix other ingredients like dried tulsi leaves, rose petals or orange peels also and make the scrub a invigorating scrub. They will provide a scrub a distinct smell if use separately.

Home made Scrub to get rid of facial hair {DIY}

Swathy · January 28, 2010 · 68 Comments

Today, I will be sharing with you an age old scrub used by Indians. It is pretty popular during the wedding season and suits every skin type. It actually balances the oil production in the skin.

Ingredients: (actually everything good for skin)
1. Chick Pea Flour (besan)
2. Green Gram Flour
3. Turmeric
4. Sandalwood Powder
5. Ground Orange Peels (dried)
6. Ground Lemon Peels (dried)
7. Ground Rose Petals (dried)
You can add other flowers too according to your choice like Jasmine, Marigold,, Lavender, Rosemary. Mix all the ingredients and store in an air-tight jar.
Scoop out a generous amount as you would be using it for whole of the body. Mix it with Yogurt, Honey, Glycerin, Rose water, Milk, floral water or any other ingredient of your choice. Apply it all over your body and leave for 5 minutes. Scrub it and wash off. Your skin would be soft, supple and clean. It also fades away any blemishes or dark spots on your skin. It can be used daily instead of a soap as it is completely natural.You can also use it as a face scrub. If you are mixing the scrub with yogurt, wait till it dries off on your face. This could take a pretty long time. But, its worth the wait. And, scrub it in upward direction towards your forehead to help remove the facial hairs. If used consistently over a period, the scrub is useful to get rid of all the facial hair.
