Skipping Conditioner = Split Ends? {Hair Care}

Swathy · February 21, 2012 · 16 Comments

PS: Hey all, please do let me know if you prefer this layout to the previous one or was that better. I will really appreciate the feedback.Last week, when I did a post on “Should I apply conditioner or not?“, I got a lot of responses on the post and one of the comments made me think about this post. The comment was from Krupa and she said “skipping conditioner n using leave in serum is a gud idea but without conditioner wont we get split ends?”.

What does a Conditioner do?

Anyways, thinking from her point of view, she is right. Conditioner is supposed to condition our hair and provide it moisture and nourishment and when the hair strands are nourished, moisturized and hydrated, they do not develop split ends. But, I want to clear a misconception. Conditioner never ever repairs Split Ends. No product can repair Split Ends. How to get rid of Split Ends?
Split Ends can only be prevented by taking care of the hair and being diligent about applying the products meant to keep the hair in a good condition. But, if they develop, you can only snip them off. Otherwise, those split ends can travel up the length of your hair strands and cause your hair to look rough and damaged. So, always take good care of your hair with regular deep conditioning treatments and snip off the ends at regular intervals too.

    @swathi lovely article
    @nami – if you have weak hair I suggest you use methi seed powder in coconut oil I have been using it for 7 months now and I can feel the difference.

      hey nami…thank you so much for the feedback and regarding the conditioner, why don’t you try going natural??? try doing deep conditioning using eggs because that helped my hair too last year and later on I switched to biotique watercress conditioner. its really good. but, otherwise, I have never come across such a conditioner which I shall prescribe for weak hair!!! hope this helps 🙂 and, also, I can say that if you can spend some money, you should check out kerastese products.

      oh!!! btw, nami, do you stay in Delhi??
      yes, kerastese is the sister brand of Loreal but way better than that as far as I have heard coz its a high-end and exlusive salon range. It has chemicals but those are all good ones meant to really repair the hair like ceramides and all. Schwarzkopf is also good, I guess. Same like Kerastese. Many people have raved about some of its products.
      But, for weak hair, I guess your diet is lacking!!! No product will give you strong hair. You need to feed your body because of which better nutrition would go to the hair follicles. May be you are low on proteins or something.

      oh great!!! the reason I asked if you lived in Delhi was coz there is this Kamini aunty in safdarjung who is pretty famous for her hair loss treatments!!! I read about her on Mehak’s blog. She saw the lady and reported some improvements. So, you can probably go to her. Even I am planning on going to her when I visit Delhi next time.
      I think the blend will definitely be helpful. I have tried rosemary alone and I do think it has brought some changes in my hair though its too early to say!!!

    i have gone a year without conditioners.. conditioners are nothing but more chemicals which are used to cover up the damages that the shampoo does!

      hi Pranali…to an extent you are right but some products are good and they do help the hair but using mild products is a better option any time 🙂
