Hair or Body – which is first? {Skin Care}

Swathy · October 16, 2011 · 4 Comments

I did a poll for a week asking “Whether you wash your Hair first or your Body”? So, the results were:

Hair – 79%
Body – 21%
So, what do you think? Are the 79% correct or the 21% people?
Well, here goes my answer. One should always go top to bottom. That would ensure residual cleansing too. When we wash the hair, shampoo pours on the back and then, the conditioner and here I would like to stress that conditioner residue on the back is one of the major reasons for back acne. So, always make sure you wash off your conditioner before proceeding for further rituals.
The reason I am writing this post is that even though I used to wash my hair before, I usually used to leave the conditioner to soak into the hair while I washed my face and body and then, when I was done with everything I used to wash off my conditioner. Then, one day it struck me that the residue of the conditioner doesn’t get washed off till the next bath. No, I did not get any back acne but I do suffer from flaky skin on my back and I don’t know how much that can be attributed to conditioner, though. But, it would be of prime importance for people who suffer from acne. Similar to breakouts on hairline and chin, back acne can also be attributed to hair products. So, next time, keep a check on such small things which can make a huge difference in the long run.

Clay Body Mask {DIY}

Swathy · October 15, 2011 · 5 Comments

Multani Mitti is easily available and very cheap and is a type of a clay. And, as I have said, clays are very important for detoxification of the skin and body masks are of growing demand at the spas. So, why not make a body mask of your own. Ok, may be the treatment is not as pampering but is of equal value. And, you can add a little treat for yourself by adding essential oils and various things available at home. I did try out this DIY twice and I would say it does take time but results are fab!!!

Ingredients
  • Multani Mitti (or any other clay)
  • Water (I like Amla Juice)
  • Essential Oils (optional)
Method
Mix the ingredients and spread the mask on your skin starting from the feet and proceeding upwards.Cover the entire body. You may also include the neck and face and let it stay on the skin for 15 minutes. Wash off with warm water. The mask wouldn’t dry in the bathroom coz its humid but that’s fine. Instead, you can make the bathroom steamy and enjoy a mini-sauna like experience.
Results
The entire body has a superb glow. Its just awesome.

Top 5 Beauty Tips for Men {Guest Post}

Swathy · October 12, 2011 · 4 Comments

Men and women have different needs when it comes to grooming. Unlike women, men cannot hide tiredness, acne or wrinkles with the help of make-up. The following tips will help men retain a more youthful appearance as they age.Skin Care
Men have specific skin care needs when it comes to staying attractive and looking young. Since men sweat more than women, their chances of collecting dirt and having enlarged facial pores are great. Put together a skin care regimen that includes cleansing your face regularly, exfoliating your skin and applying moisturizer daily, especially around the eyes. Look for all natural, fragrance free products to reduce irritation to facial skin. When choosing a moisturizer, look for a product that is right for your skin type. To keep skin looking fresh and to combat wrinkles, try making time to get a regular facial. Also, to keep your skin looking healthy and hydrated, drink plenty of water throughout the day.

Exercise
Staying active is a key factor when it comes to finding the fountain of youth. Exercise keeps men balanced both mentally and physically. Plus, not only does exercise build strong and healthy muscles, but it also inspires confidence and relieves stress. Exercise also induces sweat, which will aid in removing unhealthy toxins from the body.

Body Care
Remove unwanted hair from eyebrows, nose and ears at regular intervals. Waxing the chest is a good option to consider if you’re into the bare body look. Make sure to keep finger nails and toe nails trimmed and clean by getting a manicure and pedicure. This promotes an overall clean and well groomed appearance. Try getting a body massage to improve blood circulation, tone up the body and to relieve stress.

Hair Care
Consider a hair style shorter in length. Well groomed short hair-cuts give off a younger looking vibe and cleaner outward appearance. Make sure to use shampoo and conditioners to keep hair looking healthy and shiny. Styling products are also useful in taming wild and unruly hair.

Shaving
Shaving can be particularly hard on the skin. To get that perfect smooth shave make sure to exfoliate your skin first to rub away any dead skin. Make sure to shave right after a hot shower to soften the growth of hair and to get a clean, close shave. When shaving is complete, use an aloe vera based moisturizer that will tighten pores and it won’t dry out skin like most products that have alcohol in them can. If you have facial hair such as a beard or mustache, keep them trimmed and well-groomed.
