How to Apply Onion Juice for Hair Growth – Part I

Swathy · February 24, 2014 · 39 Comments

Since I have mentioned about using onion juice for hair, I have received an onslaught of questions from various readers and they all ask me the same kind of questions. So, I thought I would create a small FAQ sort of post which will be helpful for one and all.
How does Onion help with hair growth?
Well, onion has sulphur which is an essential nutrient for hair growth. So, regular application of onion juice on the scalp enables the scalp to absorb the nutrient and nourish the follicles.
Big onions or small, red onions or white?
Big or small does not really matter but big makes the job easy! For one application of onion on my scalp and hair length which is medium, I prefer half an onion of medium size. And, red onions have more sulphur content than white ones so prefer them.
How to apply onion juice?
Grate the onion – squeeze the pulp and extract the juice in a bowl – take a cotton ball – dip in the juice – apply on scalp – cover the entire scalp and hair length – let it dry for an hour – wash off.
Onion juice becomes powdery when it dries off so be careful and do not comb your hair after applying the juice!
How many times should the onion juice be used on the scalp?
It is completely safe so it can applied as many times as you want. But, if you want my advise, apply it every time before you shampoo depending on the condition of your hair.

How to treat lice? {Hair Care}

Swathy · January 16, 2014 · Leave a Comment

I hate to admit it but the dandruff story I told you turned into the story of lice. May be I have dandruff as well but I was successful in getting rid of lice in only 2 washes. So, here goes my story and please remember this is a milder case of lice. I got the infestation through my niece during the wedding.
Things you need
Vinegar
Mediker Shampoo
Lice Comb
Method
1. Apply undiluted vinegar on your scalp and hair length using a cotton ball and leave it on for 1-2 hours. For children, use 50% diluted vinegar with water.
Vinegar loosens the glue which lice uses to stick to the scalp and hair.
2. Wash your hair with Mediker shampoo. Like it says on the bottle, keep the shampoo on the scalp for 4-5 minutes minimum. Rinse with water.
Mediker makes your hair reallyyyyyyy rough!!
3. After you come out of the shower, use the towel wrap to wring out the water in your hair and comb it. Yes, I know it is not good but for lice, you have no other choice. Once you untangle your hair using the regular comb (hopefully wide-toothed one), run the lice comb right from the edge of the scalp to the tip of the hair in small sections of hair. Better yet, get someone else to comb your hair and make sure you have your shoulder and neck covered. You will see lots of lice eggs and lice coming out of the hair and you do not want them to end on your skin!!
If you are lucky, you are rid of the lice and if not, repeat this process twice a week. And, use hot water on your hair as it kills lice. Yup, not a good idea again but no other choice!! And, it is good to repeat this process after 15 days – 1 month again to make sure you are of all remnants of lice.
4. Change the bed covers after this entire process.
Hope this helps! How do you get rid of lice?

Clove and Camphor Oil for Hair {DIY}

Swathy · January 8, 2014 · 12 Comments

Ok, I have to say that I am not liking not spending time on my blog but honestly it is becoming difficult for me to concentrate and I am losing inspiration. I am literally forcing myself everyday to think on what I want to write. I wanted to post today but due to huge workload, I could not do it. Anyways, try and try until you succeed.
Now, lemme come to my hair care routine. Well, as you have noticed, my skin and hair care regimes are all on hold so all those series will start once I really get settled. For now, I have started trying something very interesting. My FIL has a collection of some essential oils like clove and camphor.
And, the moment I told my mom I am suffering from dandruff, she asked me to use camphor oil. Now, camphor oil should never be used neat on the skin so I diluted it with almond oil. And, then, I saw clove oil over there. And, I had been thinking about clove since days together coz I like the brownish tinge it gives to the hair and it also is a great stimulant for the hair follicles.
So, I added in a few drops of the clove EO as well in my almond oil and it smells so strongly of cloves now. I have till now used the oil just once or twice but it does really help in reducing the scratchy and itchy scalp. So, try out.
And, if you do not have clove oil, just pop some cloves in a pan till they smoke and then drop them in your oil. Leave them for a week and then start using the oil thereafter.
Have you tried clove oil for scalp?
