I replaced my roller chair with a stable one!! {Health}

Swathy · August 3, 2012 · 8 Comments

This was one of the most important of the changes I did in my routine recently. As is the case with all offices, even my work place has the regular roller chairs in front of the workstations. Instead of desktops, we have laptops so the height of the chair is not much of an issue.

I have been using the roller chairs since quite a few months but its not very comfortable and in fact, it strains the small of the back and the vertebrae overall. So, I could never sit very comfortably on it.  And, ultimately ended up exchanging it with a stable chair which has a proper base.
Since then, I can sit fully back on the chair keeping my back straight which gives a good posture and I have never felt uncomfortable as I used to on the roller chairs. So, if you do have same issues, try this option (if available) and hopefully, you will feel equally better 🙂
Which chair do you prefer in general?

Is your vision not 6/6? {Health}

So, this post is in general for everyone but people who are myopic or hypermetropic (I don’t know if that’s a term, someone correct me please!) should pay special attention to this post. So, remember I had told that I have got new specs for myself? I always get mine made from Lawrence and Mayo and would really recommend it to everyone unless you already know of a place better than that!!

Anyways, so these L&M guys also have an optician who checks out your power before ordering for one. So, I get mine tested from them since I have never found a single reliable eye doc in Hyderabad and I did get my vision tested in November by my regular doc. And, the opticians at L&M are great. I again digress!! So, this guy asked me how much time I spend on laptop?
And, my answer was literally almost all time since that was true. The number goes like 18 out of 24!! And, he was pretty distressed and told me that you should in fact go out a bit and roam around because its very necessary for eyes to be acclimatised to look at distant distances to preserve the vision. So, if you are also a researcher who loves to be cooped up in front of the system all time, go out and have a stroll and do some exercise outdoors.
In fact, I would say that initially looking at far away distances was difficult for me coz I felt as if everything was swimming after a mere 10mtrs. Yes, that’s pretty bad but then my myopic vision is pretty bad and its getting worse, thanks to laptop!! But, I have started going out for walks since I have moved to the new place and I am feeling better day by day. And, my eyes also feel relaxed not having to stare into system all time.
Grab a book and curl up in a bed. The weather is too awesome to miss out such a chance!!

Dare to Change : Use Stairs

Swathy · August 1, 2012 · 14 Comments

I am starting a new series starting this month. Since I have changed the place of my dwelling, it has given me a new energy and I want to explore myself beyond I have ever gone. So, I shall start with simple challenges and might move on difficult ones. For now, I have a simple challenge:

“Avoid lifts and Use Stairs especially when going up!!“

My apartment is on 5th floor and I am getting an overdose of potatoes these days 🙁 So, keeping my weight in control is getting damn difficult. So, I hit upon this simplest solution to use the stairs instead of the lift. I have already been trying this out for a couple of days and today morning, its brought me to a point that I am not really able to walk 🙁 I am feeling lethargic and can feel a little pain in the legs.
Ok, I have never been an athlete in my life and have hardly exercised so this simple work actually seems pretty heavy for me. You can say that on average, I have to climb up 5 flights of stairs 2-3 times a day and probably none on weekends if I sit around being lazy and lying down. Anyways, I do feel muscles in places I have never felt before and its fun in its own way 😀
PS: Ok, there is one relief in this resolve. I can use the stairs lift while coming down if I am getting late or feel too tired.

So, the Dare to Change series is a push to change my lifestyle for the better. Would you care to join in?
