Reader’s Query – Basics of Skin Care Routine

Recently I got another very interesting and extremely basic query about skin care routine. The reader in question has mature skin. I shall try to answer this by creating a very basic skin care routine which everyone must follow, whatsoever the age.
My skin is very dull and tanned and dry. Can you please suggest the best cream which I would like to apply to my total body.

Basic Skin Care Routine

Morning Skin Care Routine
So, morning needs something light and something easy for you. You might be in a hurry so let us keep it uncomplicated.

  • Take a shower.
  • Use a light and hydrating serum immediately once out of the shower or may be inside. This will lock in the moisturizer.
  • Proceed to body. Immediately apply a body butter or body lotion which ever you are comfortable with. Do this step when water is still dripping from your skin. Yes, it might sound messy but this is the best treat for you. And, make sure you include your nails, feet, heels and other areas which we often miss out.
  • In the mean time, your face would be completely dry. So, you can follow with sunscreen. Do this out of the shower if you have not yet stepped out.
  • Take time to apply your sunscreen on your face, neck, decolletage and all other exposed parts of your body. Make sure you apply the right quantity.
  • Follow with makeup if you like. And, you are good to go.
Night Skin Care Routine

After an entire day of traveling or working, your skin needs a little taking care. I find it best to start with massage so I like dousing it with cleansing milk and working it through the skin to remove my sunscreen. This is absolutely vital. Not many people know that sunscreen has to be removed before washing your face.

  • Use cleansing milk to remove sunscreen. Make sure to get rid of sunscreen in your hair line, nose crevices, eye area, behind the ears and all other hidden places.
  • Follow with a good face wash and make sure your skin is absolutely clean.
  • While in shower (if you take one which I would highly recommend) or once you wash your face, slather a hydrating serum. Follow with a body butter or lotion or you could use oil as well in the night. If you do not take shower at night, make sure to use body lotion wherever your skin feels dry.
  • Let the skin dry and follow with a good serum before using a moisturizer. You could stick to face oils as well at this point.
  • Follow with a night moisturizer if you feel the need. Decide depending on how your skin feels.
  • I would like to add a small tip here. Massage in your body lotion or butter or foot creams in your feet once you are ready to close the day. It relaxes your body and helps sleep better while taking care of your feet and heels.

How to take care of skin in the Day?
Well, we are traveling or we are sitting in air-conditioning and the skin keeps on drying. How to take care of that?
  • Keep a hand cream handy and keep slathering it on your hands all through the day. Hands and nails are the first to bear the brunt of dryness. And, apply the hand cream wherever required.
  • If your face feels dry, use face mists. They actually help a lot. Or, you could just take a bit of your hand cream and rub it in. Or, just press your hands after you apply your hand cream on your palms onto your face.
That’s it! In just a week, you will see a remarkable difference in your skin quality overall. Actually, this entire routine takes not more than 10-15 minutes in a day once you get used to it. And, yes, I have left out the exfoliation and face mask routines since we are just talking about basic day to day skin care routine.

So, how do you design your skin care routine? Do you like it simple? What are your basic steps which you never forgo? Would you like to add anything else to the above steps?

Nice and quick routine for busy people. Although I like to follow a strict CTM routine both day and night as I like to pamper my skin.

yeah its the most basic routine I could think of which keeps skin in amazing condition and intact as well. CTM both times is compulsory, only depending on skin type and dirtiness levels, I like to change the methods of cleansing once in a while. it is fun to use different products 🙂 any morning serum suggestions?
