Sky Diaries – A Walk to Remember.

Swathy · June 22, 2025 · Leave a Comment

reactive dog, dog reactivity, outdoor exposure, socialization

“She should walk behind you. You are not able to control her”, he said, adrenalin coursing through him just as he stepped away from Sky.

What he saw – a dog lunging out of nowhere. Someone who couldn’t control her.

It was 7:30am when the society walkway is bustling with morning joggers, walkers and kids heading to school. We usually step out of the society but Sky refused to take our usual route. So, we had to circle back around the entire society towards the back gate. We navigated through the mayhem successfully until she chose to pee towards one of the edges.

Right then, an electric vehicle zoomed by. I was holding Sky a bit loose and she was at the end of her leash. Just as I was finishing washing up, I was whirled to one side as Sky carved an arc in the air lunging on the EV. While she was in middle of her reaction, she saw something moving out of the corner of her eye and instinctively, she cut another arc in the opposite direction lunging on the passerby, whirling me in the other direction.

Everything happened in a split second without giving me time to tighten her leash. Only when the person stepped away and she calmed down, I could pull her towards me.

Yes, it was absolutely my fault for holding her leash loosely and giving her space when I knew I couldn’t pay attention. I am sure it must have been distressing for the walker. He definitely was not expecting anything like this when he started for his walk. I also understand his point of view.

I suppose he just assumed she behaves largely in the same way with everyone. Only if that wasn’t true! She is unpredictable when it comes to who she will lunge on, may be it is a cumulative reaction.

However, this split second of incident in no way justifies anyone to comment on our relationship or how she should behave. The comment stung and it still continues to hurt me. It was an unfortunate incident and post that she walked like a dream and listened to everything I said (facepalm). If only the person could see!!

Next time your dog does something similar, do not judge yourself, do not judge the other person, accept and acknowledge the mistake and move on.

“Em and the big Hoom” by Jerry Pinto

One of the craziest books I have read till date is “Em and the Big Hoom” by Jerry Pinto. Even before proceeding, I suggest you skip this article and go in blind into the book. The read is absolutely rewarding. Please check the trigger warning beforehand.

Trigger Warnings: Depression, Mental Health, Suicide

If you still want to read , here we go.

Decluttering Life.

hoarding, decluttering,

This aspect of my personality is related to this blog. I have been writing for a very long time now, admittedly it turned sporadic for the past many years. Anyways, that’s a story for another day.

As part of the blog, I got addicted to trying out so many personal care products, I started hoarding them. At one point of time, I had more products than what I could use in an entire year and I would still keep buying more.

As usual, life finds a way to balance out things. One day, suddenly, I lost interest in everything. I still have some of those expired products, almost 6-7 years later.

Lately, I have started realizing how much of clutter we hoard throughout our lives thinking we would use them but never even taking them out of the closet. Therefore, I have started paying attention to all my purchases, weighing in and waiting to make sure that it is not an impulse buy and is essential.

To support my resolve, I have augmented them with couple of decisions:

  1. I have not renewed my Prime membership to avoid impulse and absolutely useless expenses.
  2. I am no longer spending on books.
    • I aim to finish the unread books on my shelves first.
    • I would prefer to swap or borrow instead of buying. And, exchange anything which I do not like or intend to read again.
    • If I do want to buy, I would prefer pre-loved or second hand books.
    • If nothing else works, I will go to an independent book store.
  3. I do not have much interest in clothes and so I am not buying any clothes till I find myself without any option.
  4. No Online Shopping unless it is for household stuff.
  5. Personal Care products are strictly limited to what I would most definitely use and to be replaced ONLY when I am running out of my current stash.

And, slowly and steadily, I intend to add to these rules I have framed. Eventually, I hope to reduce my baggage to just enough that I can travel with it.
