What do you do after coming in from hot sun? It is the peak of summers and I have to go out at noon. My skin feels scorched and I am usually sure all the sunscreen I have applied is also not enough to keep my skin protected. Skin exposed to sun must be calmed down as soon as possible. How do you soothe your skin after sun exposure?

One of the biggest effect of sun exposure is the continuing damage from the sun rays even after coming indoors. The damage from sun rays can continue even hours after sun exposure. It is somewhat similar to a burn. You have to soothe your skin as soon as it burns to stop the burning from penetrating into the deeper levels of skin. Similarly, it is important to immediately soothe your skin after sun exposure.

How to soothe your skin after sun exposure?

Wash your face or use a face mist to soothe your skin after sun exposure

Use cool water to wash your face. And, if that is not possible, spray a good amount of face mist and wet your skin thoroughly. If possible, take a cool water bath without using any soap. For added relief, add a bit of baking soda to the water, which has been shown to relieve stinging and inflammation. Also, choose to air dry instead of using a towel to dry your skin.

Use a hydrating mask or apply aloevera gel to soothe your skin after sun exposure

Immediately after splashing your face with water or taking a bath, follow with a light hydrating mask or apply aloevera gel straight from the leaf. You can also try out Mizon’s Aloe 90 Soothing Gel, and gently dab it onto the affected area. Aloe vera is easily absorbed by the skin and helps soothe the skin or help with any burn.

Drink a lot of water to rehydrate yourself after sun exposure

This is important not only from the skin’s perspective but also the health. Body gets dehydrated and you need to refuel it by giving yourself a lot of liquids. Drink a lot of water and eat water rich fruits like watermelon, cantaloupe, or honeydew but NOT IMMEDIATELY. Wait for 15-20 minutes before taking any fluids right after coming in from the sun.

What to do before going into sun?

When it comes to something as painful as sunburn or anything close to it, prevention is always better than cure.

  • To avoid damaging your skin, make it a habit to put on sun protection before stepping out; you’re less likely to forget it if you’re doing it every day.
  • If you stay indoors most of the time, get a lightweight lotion that offers sun protection for daily use, which won’t leave a greasy, sticky feeling on your skin.
  • If you’re hitting the beach or exposed to the sun all day, prepare properly by packing a water-resistant sunscreen that offers broad-spectrum protection, and reapply it after every 2 hours.
  • And, always carry an umbrella or a hat for extra protection from direct sunlight, at least on the face and neck.

Remember that sun damage is not limited to sunburns, it can also lead to premature skin aging, the early appearance of wrinkles, and the formation of skin discolorations—a condition called melasma. At the same time, it’s also strongly linked to skin cancer. Caring for your skin properly helps you avoid all these conditions, and it gives you a better chance of enjoying good health and great complexion in the future.

Now, it’s your turn . . .

So, what do you to take care of your skin after coming in from the sun? Do you avoid going out in the sun as much as possible? How do you soothe your skin after sun exposure?

Nice tips. I like using face mists after coming from the sun. Also a clay face pack after sometime is cooling and soothing on the skin.

so, that’s what a face mist is used for!!:D I have always been confused on why to use them and how to use them. are clay masks not more intense after sun exposure. i feel hydrating masks are more soothing and calm down the skin. clay masks are detoxifying which is not something you want for your skin right after sun exposure.
