If you have been a regular reader of the blog, you would already be aware of the fact that I love using essential oils. I use them in all possible places and diffusing is one of my favorite ways to relax. Diffusers are the easiest ways to make your home smell amazing. Many say burning aromatic candles gives the same feel but then I have not really come across the good ones.
Do you know that essential oils have effects on our emotional brain? Smells can evoke memories more powerfully than any other sense.
Is it not the case that we think of doing all amazing stuff in our own homes to make it look and smell awesome, things which we can never do in rented places sometimes. I got specific electric points or internal wiring done for installing electric diffusers, for example, and I also installed lot of yellow lights as opposed to the harsh white ones for comforting evenings.
Have you tried out reed diffusers to make your home smell amazing? Recently, I gave them a try though I am still not sure of my stand on them. I prefer electric diffusers to them. Tea light candle diffusers are amazing too and do not heat up the room like electric ones but they get way more expensive in the long run, thanks to the expensive and eco-friendly tea light candles. Oh, that reminds me, I can make my own tea light candles, duh! The next project in line.
Electric or Regular Diffusers to make your home smell amazing
So, electric or not, a little purified water and lots of essential oil drops and viola! House smells warm and comforting immediately. Complement it with dim yellow lighting and a book and you are in for a relaxed after-work me time!
Add Essential Oils in Cleaners to make your home smell amazing
This is another favourite DIY of mine. Well, I like to mix up my commercial cleaners with a bit of homemade ones to make them last longer and effective. So, I mix half of the bottle with vinegar, baking soda and salt. Then, I add in a couple of drops of essential oils like lemon grass or citronella or cypress. They never get overwhelming. I do the same with bathroom cleaners as well. And, when the house gets mopped, it smells refreshing and this solution also banishes the stale odor from the mop.
Another Tip: If you do own a semi-automatic washing machine (yeah, I am still living in flintstone age but I prefer the manual involvement in it), you can also give your mop a weekly clean. Just unscrew the head or put the entire mop in the machine and give it a go for 10-15 rounds. Viola, it is clean and new!
My friend gave me this tip and I found it so useful. I do throw in my foot mats also once a week in the machine. Adding baking soda and couple of drops of essential oils gives them a very refreshing wash.
Having Reed Diffuser in Every Room to make your home smell amazing
A reed diffuser has always baffled me till I got one. I never really understood how sticks sticking out of a glass container would help spread fragrance. Turns out the reed sticks are special type of vines which have channels inside their stem to absorb the fragrance using capillary action and release the scent into air using evaporation diffusion process.
So, how to use reed diffuser again? Nothing! You just have to put those reed sticks in the bottle of fragrance oil and the diffusing process begins in almost three to four hours. This is a simpler way to keep the room smelling nice and not much of upkeep is required on your end either. But, my experience has not been great as of yet. The bottle keeps falling under strong gust of wind and oil blots up the furniture and papers around. Also, there is a matter of keeping the reed sticks clean or they get clogged with dust and do not work as effectively. So, overall, not much of an experience.
Now, it is your turn . . .
I do like good ventilation and air circulation in my home and all the above keeps it smelling nice and cozy. And, a good book with a reading light in the wing chair with candles burning all around is what gives me the ultimate bliss of peace and serenity. What do you do to make your home smell amazing?
