When I reviewed the Nutrova Collagen + Anti-Oxidant Nutritional Supplement, Jyothi shared a few concerns about how long should the product be taken.
Hi Swati, thanks for this update. Seems like a good product, the only concern i have is how long i need to take this, as you already mentioned, it is damn expensive, a couple of months is okay. But if it needs to be taken for a long time, it will make a dent in our budgets. Also once i stop, will the skin still have the positive effects or will it go worse than what it is now. This is always my biggest worry in taking any kind of supplements. What do you think? — Jyothi
To which I replied
hey Jyothi. sorry for replying so late! you are asking the correct question and the only answer to such a query is that generally it has to be taken life long. and, yes, it does make a dent in the budget. the only thing i can say is that you can take the product once in 2-3 days depending on how your skin reacts to it and then once one entire packet is consumed (30 sachets), a gap of one month is must so that the body does not get used to the product and will continue to show the same results. The same thing is followed for any kind of a supplement. so, I can say it would be probably 3-4 packets a year which means almost 10-11k per year. but, yes, it is huge!! no doubt.
When Akshay, the founder of Nutrova, went through my reply to Jyothi, he pointed out few incorrect statements I had made. So, to clarify, I would like to mention what Akshay says about the product dosage and how should the product be taken!
While going through the posts, I noticed a reply you’ve posted to a comment, which had a few technically incorrect points, and I wanted to inform you of the same. You’ve mentioned:1. ” the only answer to such a query is that generally it has to be taken life long”
2. “the only thing i can say is that you can take the product once in 2-3 days depending on how your skin reacts to it and then once one entire packet is consumed (30 sachets), a gap of one month is must so that the body does not get used to the product and will continue to show the same results. 1. The product does not have to be taken life long. Our collagen production slows down as we age, and while we can take the product indefinitely to counter this, it will also provide a long lasting benefit when taken for just 6-8 weeks. This is because in a 6-8 week period, damage that has been built up is repaired. Taking it for longer periods of time addresses ongoing damage caused due to aging and the environment. (After reading your post on how antioxidants form, I think that you’re now an expert on how that happens!)
2. It’s better to take the product for the entire duration of 30 days and then stop indefinitely then to take it once every few days. Skin growth is a continuous process and if we want to improve the quality of collagen and repair damage, collagen peptide should be continuously taken for a minimum of 4 weeks, but ideally 6-8 weeks.
3. Our body doesn’t get ‘used to’ nutrients the way it does to active ingredients or pharmaceuticals. A very simplistic way to look at it – our body doesn’t get used to food. Nutrition supplements are basically food, and we are feeding our body’s need for them. Certain nutrients, like collagen peptide, make it easier for our bodies to do certain things. Your body will continue to make collagen irrespective of whether you are taking a collagen supplement or not. The only thing that changes is that your body has to do more work, which slows down the process.
Whew! That was quite revealing and informative, right? It did clear out one of my biggest confusions! The body does not get used to food!! Well, actually that is quite logical. And, this does help reassure us that we need not really spend a huge amount to buy the product.
So, guess that answers your doubts, Jyothi, regarding how long must the product be taken. Thanks Akshay for going through the comments and replying to my unasked doubts as well.

Hi Swati, Akshay, thanks for your response. This definitely has helped in clearing my doubts. Now i know that it needs to be taken for 6 to 8 weeks and then can be stopped, atleast i wont need to take it regularly after that.

Hi I have just started taking nutrova anti oxidant and collagen sachets. Would like to know when is the best time to have this for optimum results. Thanks
Swati says
hi Suman. how are you doing? did you start taking the supplements? there is no specific timing which would improve the efficacy of the product. you could probably fix up a time and have the supplement at that time every single day to ensure there is no overlap and you are not having it more than once in 24 hours time. I used to take it at 4 PM in the evening.
