You spend a full one third of your entire life in bed, why the devil would you settle for something that isn’t comfortable? We spend weeks and months deliberating over what car to buy, what television to get, which smartphone is best. Yet, our beds we barely think about at all. So buying an entire new bed can be expensive I know but there are ways to improve the comfort of your existing sleeping surface. After all when you go to bed at night you owe your poor hard working body all the comfort it deserves. It’s your duty to make sure you are as comfortable as possible. Below are a few ways to boost the comfort level of bed of yours.
Top it off
Ever heard of a mattress topper? Well, you have now. A mattress topper does exactly what it says on the label. It’s an extra layer of padding that lies between you and the regular mattress underneath.
Not only do these handy things dramatically increases the life of the mattress underneath by reducing pressure on the springs and delaying sagging, they also give you a big comfort boost. Yay!
Say for instance your mattress is pretty firm, giving you all the back support you need. Chances are then it’s not the most comfortable. The addition of a softer memory foam mattress topper will add this layer of comfort without reducing the back support. A perfect combination if you ask me.
If you are dissatisfied with the comfort of your current mattress instead of splashing out the big cash on a new one, a mattress topper could be a perfect way find a little bit more comfort and rekindle your love of the lie in.
Get down on it
One way to dramatically boost your comfort levels at night is to invest in some goose or duck down pillows and covers. With down filled bedding each time you climb into bed it will feel as if you are climbing into the fluffiest white cloud in the sky.
Now a word of warning, if you are willing to splash out on some luxurious down filled bedding – and you should, you deserve it – don’t skimp and get the cheapest ones on offer. The more you spend, the fluffier the feathers and the softer the cloud, so to speak.
The worst thing that can happen is that you invest in some fancy feather-filled covers only to find that you are being constantly needled by the quills of feathers.
No, actually the worst thing that can happen is you find out you are allergic to duck feathers. Probably best to check that in advance.
Time for a little pillow talk
We spend a lot of time in bed. Think about this for a second, if you spend a third of your entire time of this planet in bed you spend a third of your life with your beautiful face smushed against your pillow. Nothing is more important than your face, so nothing should be more important than getting the right pillow to smush it against!
When it comes to buying pillows it isn’t all about how much you spend. No, it’s all about finding the right fit for you. Like every snowflake is different, so are everyones sleeping styles. Fortunately whether you a side sleeper, a back sleeper, a starfisher or even a curl-into-a-ball type, there is a pillow out there for you.
Choosing a pillow can be a lot more complicated that you’d imagine, fortunately here’s a handy buyers guide for you to follow.
Time to meet the perfect sheet
What did the Ancient Egyptians every do for us? A lot is the answer. Without those cat loving North Africans we wouldn’t have paper, toothpaste, make-up or even the bed. Yep, the Ancient Egyptians invented the very first four legged, raised-of-the-ground, bed. Before them we were all bedding down on piles of leaves on the ground.
Egypt has also given us Egyptian cotton. Or as they call it – cotton. With a thread count of 1,000, these sheets feel incredible smooth and silky to touch and are an unbelievable way to enhance the comfort of your sleeping experience. Slipping into a bed lined with Egyptian cotton will make you feel like as luxurious as Cleopatra herself.
Well, there you have my fellow comfort hunters – four ways to boost the comfort levels of your sleepy times without splashing out on an entire new bed. If some of the above sound a little bit extravagant just remember, the amount of time you spend in bed is longer than the time you spend anywhere else. Treat it with the respect it deserves, you’ll sleep better and your body will thank you.
