Similar principle applies here as well. What they do in this treatment is use high frequency light on the scalp. No, it doesn’t hurt or anything. At max, if your scalp is very sensitive, you might feel a little spark shock for a moment. For that, you can get the strength of the frequency adjusted so that you are comfortable with it.
The instrument either in form of a comb or a single rod which is in fact a glass electrode which when placed in the holder creates the low current and lets it flow through it. You can see the blue light in the electrode. When the electrode touches the scalp, you feel a light tingling sensation and a very comfortable and soothing vibration on the scalp.
High-frequency treatment uses low-current high-frequency alternating currents, delivered via a glass electrode. Because the high frequency current converts some of the oxygen in the air into ozone, the treatment has a germicidal action, and is also drying and warming. Consequently the treatment is used to aid healing, and also to help desquamation (the skin’s natural exfoliation), and simulate sweat and sebaceous glands.
At up to 250,000 Hz frequency, the hollow glass electrode behaves like a glow discharge tube, and is sometime called a “violet ray” or “violent wand”, (though the colour depends on the gas in the glass). Two electrodes are not required, and sparking may occur when the electrode is close to the skin. Because the effect may be pleasurable, similar devices are used in erotic electrostimulation. [Source: Wikipedia]
Moreover, the tingling and the vibration improves the blood circulation in the scalp and helps revitalizing the dormant hair follicles. This leads to better hair growth, controls hair loss, helps with dandruff issues as well. Also, the treatment in done in the hair spas so as to ensure better absorption of the treatment serums like hair growth serum or dandruff serums.
In fact, Punam also told me that this treatment is available for skin as well. It helps with breakouts and acne. The electrode is touched on the breakout and the effect is almost immediate. The pimple/acne is gone by the end of day or two. But, she also said that once we stop taking this treatment, the acne does come back. So, its kind of a curable treatment rather than a preventive measure.
I did think that whether its the same case with the hair as well but I think its more of a helpful treatment for hair because it can revive the dormant hair follicles which once revived and taken care of are not likely to become dormant again. It also helps relieve itchy scalp.

ya i was given this treatment during my schwarzkopf hair spa session but cant say much about its efficacy because i have experience it only once …i was going through hair fall during that time but then i prefered going to a dermatologist than to a salon for the tratment 🙂
Swati Murti says
ohk!!! i took only one sitting but it did help me a lot 🙂 don’t know..i have stopped trusting dermatologists!!!
nami says
is that so?may be because of your bitter experience..indeed its tough to find a genuine doc..whether its a salon or a clinic everyone is money minded
Swati Murti says

Interesting! Never heard of this treatment. I work for a hair transplant and hair loss clinic and we recommend Lasercomb for hair loss. Does this treatment actually work?
Swati Murti says
well, I do think it does but don’t really know…it also depends on how much our body is receptive to the treatment, right?

Hi, i have been using the high frequency on my scalp. I noticed afterward that i have tingles every where … my scalp feels ‘alive’. is this a good side effect?
Swati Murti says
yup, it is a good side effect. the treatment increases circulation but please get it done once in two weeks or three, no more often!!

Okay I have been using this for 10 minutes every day on my scalp. My head is itching like crazy! What are the side effect of using it to often? I have searched online but I cannot find any info.
Thank you for your response!
Swati Murti says
well, as i said above it should be done only by a professional during a hair spa session or something and only once in two or three weeks depending on your scalp’s need.
rekha says
how often shud i take
Swati says
if you mean often should this treatment be done, once in three weeks till the problem is solved or till you like it 🙂

The statement above : “Also, the treatment in done in the hair spas so as to ensure better absorption of the treatment serums like hair growth serum or dandruff ” is incorrect. High frequency has no polarity so it physically cannot cause product penetration. For that you need to use galvanic current.
Swati says
hi Basil. thanks a lot for this correction. i shall read more about it and update the correct info immediately 🙂

You can go to the salon for the treatment. You need not buy it! Also, yes, you can get it done during pregnancys well.

A pregnant woman should not have treatments with electric currents- I’m a licensed esthetician

can you use a hi frequency machine over a hairspa masque.
Want to know when exactly during a hairspa service to use this. before shampoo, after shampoo ? after masque application (during massage) or after rinsing it off. ?
can it be used on Wet hair ?
Swati says
hi. its best to get it done professionally. ideally, in hair spa, they wash your hair, dry it, do this treatment on dry scalp, follow with applying spa conditioner and then give a massage and leave it for 30minutes minimum and then wash it off. i don’t think you should use it on wet hair as it works on electricity. hope this helps 🙂

I’m a Beauty specialist who specialises in electrotherapy. My advise to you all is to leave your skin and body health to professionalals. A professional knows if the indications & contra-indications, treatment duration, side effects etc. Don’t rely on adverts, they want you to buy so it will be presented

I have been facing the hair loss problem since years, it was due to stress and beacause of improper diet. I recently started the high frequency sitting , one sitting is completed. Am feel the itching on the scalp . So scared to go for second sitting. Is the itching is negative sign?? Is any regrow possible with this treatment???
Am taking the treatment at spa , how many more sittings are required????
Plz plz help me to overcome the issue.
Swati says
hi Sravanthi. did you pay for a package or something? usually it does not result in itching but may be you had a reaction from some product. is it really bad? how long has it been and is it still itching continuously? have you tried applying something to your scalp, may be the itching is just due to dryness? did you find the treatment uncomfortable and did you talk to the stylist who did it? I am not sure if itching is a negative sign but if you can skip, I would suggest you to skip the treatment for sometime and probably work on your scalp. My guess is that it is too dry. Instead, I would suggest applying aloevera gel directly to the scalp and hair length. and I mean the gel directly from the leaf, not the market products. it should take care of your scalp itching and dryness both.
Ch sravanthi says
Thank u very much for your suggestion . Ya I will skip the treatment for some time.
I have one more question to ask you . Is hair regrowth possible ???
What we can do regrow the lost hair ??
Plz suggest .
Swati says
hey! yes, regrowth is possible unless your follicles are dead. so, it really depends on your scalp condition. but, most of the time, the follicles just go inactive and not die. but, regrowth is a very committed and time consuming process. please have a look at my series #onemonthtohealthyhair. it will give you everything you need to know about regrowth.
https://swathyandsky.com/category/onemonthtohealthyhair
also, try onion juice treatment. it really works.

Sravanthi says
Thank u for building my confidence level . How onion juice will help for hair regrowth , how to make it , what is the frequency to apply it . Plz suggest .
Swati says
Hey sravanthi. No worries because stress is the biggest hair growth deterrent 😝 think that when ever you are down. All your questions are answered in the two part posts. And regarding frequency, I would way twice a week or whenever you are gonna wash your hair.

Thank u very much. Many people say that 100 hair shedding is normal , it is hair cycle , fallen hair again grows back . My question is what is avg no of hair regrow in a day ??
What are we can do for hair regrowth?
What is the minimum period to see the results??
Swati says
hi Sravanthi. yes, 150-200 hair loss is actually normal though the number can reduce as well. the amount of hairs that regrow in a day is I think practically impossible to measure since the growth is about 1/4-1/2 inch a month on average where as when you see hair falling, you can see the complete hair. Do not worry about that and instead you could probably try out the onion juice method which actually works really well for hair growth.
https://swathyandsky.com/2014/02/onion-juice-for-hair-growth-updates.html
depending on your lifestyle and hair growth cycle and everything else, you should give any method a good 2-3 months to show difference. sometimes, a month is also enough.

Hello Swathi garu ,
Can we apply steam to the hair??
In parlour they apply pack then steam for some time. They say pours will be opened .
Can apply steam after oil massage??
Swati says
hey Sravanthi. yes, you can steam your hair but it is rather difficult to get it in the middle of your head. and, yes, it is best done after an oil massage or applying hair pack. just be careful or have someone else do it for you!
Sravanthi says
