Hey Everyone! So, yeah, I have seen so many people biased against makeup. And, the most glaring example came up just few days back. It was actually quite a funny incident.
So, my friend comes over for a nightcap and the next day she sees me getting ready to go out and she is like “Whoa, you use way many products! Why do you need this and that?” And, I am rendered speechless because she comes up with her trump card “Why so many chemicals!“.
I am like “Huh…there we go again!“. I am so tired of this chemical thing, honestly! Anyways, what my daily routine before heading out for the day is applying Garnier Anti Dark Circles Eye Roll-on, sunscreen and Ponds BB cream.
Ok, I am not a fan of long routine and multiple layers on my face but then I am trying out both Garnier and Ponds products so can’t really skip them but how to explain that! Anyways, I was like “its ok, no!” and she is like “people apply makeup to get fair. You don’t really do that, right?”.
Ok, I have never really believed in applying makeup simply because of the fact that it was just too much of work but never did I believe that people do it to make themselves fair. Well, it might be the reason why makeup originated but today it holds a very different meaning.
If it had been to make people fair, I would say it would all be white! Why to bother buying foundations of skin color. Well, I think makeup is to look professional or to conceal few flaws or brighten the skin but that doesn’t really mean its bad!
I mean I have no reason why people are so biased if you get made-up but I know people who count tinted lip balms in lipstick category. Ok, I have to say I don’t really know the difference between a lipstick and tinted lipbalm but seriously! Why the hell be biased against the entire thing altogether? And, btw, what do you call tinted moisturizers and sunscreens?
Oh btw, if you were not already aware, only prostitutes were thought to have painted faces once upon a time but we already know that the normal makeup and THAT kind of makeup are a lot different. The entire concept of makeup and toe-nail painting took birth in France, I suppose. But, since then, lot of things have changed and this is not 1800’s! As Tom Hanks once said “I wear makeup for my living!”.
What do you say? Do you consider people who wear makeup as different?

I hear you! I get this from everyone – colleagues at work (one gem was, “your lipstick has dead babies), cousins and uncles (“makeup makes the man – else you look like a crow”), friends (you have putty/concrete/cement on your face!”), boyfriends (“you think you look good? it’s the makeup!”). I’ve lost my temper umpteen times. Now I’m tired and just tell them it’s my darn face. I wouldn’t interfere with what they’re wearing anywhere on their bodies (in rather more risque language lol). That shuts them up.

– ohhh boy … You would not believe but i faced this ridicule all during my college years while in PGs or with other girlfriends__ however in college people caught up soon and we all got along well and i was rather appreciated later on? But while in a PG (for a good 2 1/2 years) it turned kinda hell-ish.. Girls would be mean about it, gossip rudely behind my back,ex-roomies would spread nasties about my regime and add masala and talk to newer ones. While two of my roomies never thought I did much, but most thought otherwise. Whereas, my routine consists of sunscreen, BB creams, pressed powder, kohl, mascara, blush, lippies and doing my brow that too with a brow pencil. Hardly takes me 10 mins.. No primer, or foundation, nor eye shadows. I felt disheartened at first.. but my closest friends encouraged me and kept asking me tips and tricks to incorporate in their regime too.
Many close eelatives comment things such as, “thoda bohot leepa-poti (painting face) kar leti hai toh theek lagti h..” “rang saaf nai h. Muh pe laga kr thodi bohot rang saaf dikhta h ni toh” I am wheatish in comlexion, btw. And some comment that ‘cuz of makeup i look better than reality.
But these things are pure spite. And i am so far ahead off of all these.
Our face is a canvas, and makeup our paints of flawless confidence and inner beauty. It’s every woman’s right. And being ignorant doesn’t male onse less than others.
Thank you for writinv this post, anyways 🙂

hey Ishy…yeah, let ladies live as they want no! same thing with the relatives happened with me also. one my uncle commented his DIL looks better than me and i was like where did that comparison come from and my aunt taunted him that yeah if she also went to parlor four times a day, she would also look great 😀 needless to say i relished the compliment but honestly comparing and ridiculing and saying all those things is not exactly necessary!! and, yeah, not applying makeup is either not such a huge achievement. one should do it according to their wishes.

Even Ancient Egyptians wore makeup, including eyeliner and “lipstick”. While some women may wear it to look like an entirely different person, I think most wear it to enhance their own natural features. Also, who on earth would want to wear makeup to appear lighter-skinned if they’re not putting in on all over their body? That line of demarcation between light/far and medium/darker would be too harsh to wear in public. So, I agree with you that we buy toned makeup to try to match our own skintone better, instead of for a lightening effect.

yeah people forget that entire concept of makeup is from ancient time! now, its almost trendy not to wear makeup for some. yeah, its as you said, people or rather ladies wear it to make their skin more bright and fresh and alive!

Even Ancient Egyptians were wearing makeup such as eyeliner, “lipstick” and more. I believe that most women who wear makeup do it to enhance their own natural features, instead of trying to look like someone else. I don’t see anything wrong with evening out your skintone with the use of makeup and bringing out the features you’re most proud of. And who on earth would even think of wearing makeup to appear lighter-skinned without applying it all over their body? The line of demarcation between the light/fair makeup and the medium/darker complexion would be too harsh, and wearing it in public would become more embarrassing than just sticking to what nature gave us. To me, makeup can make you look fresher and more alive.
