Benefits of Orange on Skin

Swathy · March 8, 2010 · 111 Comments

This fruit belongs to the citrus family and is best know for its astringent and toning properties. Oranges are a good source of Vitamin C which is known to improve the skin texture and color. They help restoring collagen in our body which is responsible for skin firming and preventing early aging of skin. So, daily serving of citrus fruits helps our body fight aging.

  • After eating orange, instead of throwing away the peels, dry them in sun and grind them. Store the mixture. And, use it as a body scrub.
  • Mix the above made scrub and milk or milk cream and apply on face. It gives an instant glow to your face. And, reduces the dark spots and blemishes on your skin.
  • If you do not want to go through the tedious step of grinding the peels, you can make a refreshing face spray using the peels.
  • If you do not use a face spray, simply pour boiling water on the peels and leave for a day. Next day, filter the liquid and store it in fridge. Apply the liquid on your face using a cotton ball. Let stay till it dries up. Your face will be firm and glowing.
    • You can use this liquid in preparing face masks. Use the liquid in a day or two.
    • You can pour this liquid in your bath water and enjoy a refreshing and rejuvenating bath. Your skin will smell fresh all day.
    • Use the liquid as a hair rinse to get shining hair. It also helps in removing dandruff.
  • A very innovative tip: Take the juice of 2 oranges and freeze it in an ice tray. Rub your face with frozen orange juice cubes. It will instantly freshen you up and lift up the tiredness from your face. The juice will give your dull and oily face an instant sheen. And, the chilled ice cubes will close and minimize the size of your pores. This also provides relief to acne prone skin and pimples.

ummm…probably you might not be using a brand which is suiting you (generally the powders in the market have other ingredients which might not suit), in case you are using the branded orange peel powders. or, it might be because your skin is too sensitive. you can mix the orange peel powder with chickpea flour or multani mitti and then apply.

there is no guarantee to any kind of home remedy. how faster it reacts on your skin depends on your skin type. it can take upto a week or two to notice any difference.

does anyone know how dry should the orange peel be? Should it be crackling? I’ve noticed that it’s easier to grind a crackling dry orange peel but it might not have much minerals left.

    • Swati Murti says

to make the orange peel powder, it should lose the entire moisture in it and should be like a dry autumn leaf. yes, crackling would probably be a right way to describe it. and, no, it doesn’t remove the minerals in it. only, don’t let the orange peel dry in direct sunlight.

Drinking orange juice is much better than applying on the skin because it takes time to penetrate into your skin and react to the problem. But in case of drinking, intake gives better results as it helps and boosts your immunity well.

hi. blackheads occur due to the oxidation of oil in the pores. this is an ongoing problem and can not be stopped unless you are using non-comedogenic products. so, get a face wash with salicylic acid like garnier pore unclogging face wash. and, use a moisturizer which is not too heavy for your skin. also, exfoliate your skin once in 3 days. is your skin oily?

Hi ayeesha. You should not use multani mitti everyday. It is detoxifying so use it two or three times a week depending on your skin is dry or oily.

Yes I too had the same problem when I applied orange peel powder +curd + honey +Besan. I had burning sensation and immediately I washed my face. Note: orange peel powder done in home only (dried under sunlight & powdered).
