The Book Corner Vol. 7 – Which Agatha Christie books I enjoyed?

agatha christie books - crooked house, dead man's folly, lord edgware dies, ordeal by innocence, poirot investigates, sleeping murder, the man in the brown suit, while the light lasts, the secret of chimneys, murder is easy, death on the nile, dumb witness, miss marple omnibus
My Agatha Christie Collection

After finishing two books in the very first week of the year, my entire month was spent in considerable reading pleasure. Most of them were Agatha Christie books.

I had binged shopped around 25-30 books at Crossword earlier in January so I was chewing up on those very books. I got a few for my Agatha Christie book collection though the best of the books were missing in the book store.

Anyways, let us checkout what all I enjoyed this month.

Crooked House (Read it here)

‘Goodbye, dear,’ she said. ‘Don’t worry too much. Certain things have to be faced and endured.

This is the best of Agatha Chrstie books. Not withstanding her own masterpiece The Murder of Roger Ackroyd. Beautiful characters and amazing plot. Subtle and simple.

My favourite – Crooked House

Dead Man’s Folly (Read it here)

‘Thank you, M. Poirot,’ she said, ‘for coming to tell me yourself of this. Will you leave me now? There are some things that one has to face quite alone . . .’

I love Ariadne Oliver and almost all of her plots.

My professor had once asked me whom I liked better – Poirot or Miss Marple. At that time, around 4-5 years back, I was enamoured by Miss Marple and I think my prof was disappointed by my choice. Since then, interestingly, I have come to love Poirot more and more. In fact, I have no idea why people hate him because what he teaches us is so valuable in life. More about it in some other post.

Lord Edgware Dies (Read it here)

‘Well, I suppose it takes all kinds of honour to make a world.’

One of the most intricate plots which managed to baffle the grey cells of M. Poirot as well. Again one of the best Agatha Christie books.

Poirot’s Cases

Poirot Investigates (Read it here)

A collection of short cases solved by Poirot.

Sleeping Murder (Read it here)

‘No,’ said Miss Marple. ‘You believed what he said. It really is very dangerous to believe people. I never have for years.’

Last case of Miss Marple. A recollection of murder and a successful hunt for the murderer after 20 years!

The Man in the Brown Suit (Read it here)

‘I had the firm conviction that, if I went about looking for adventure, adventure would meet me halfway. It is a theory of mine that one always gets what one wants.’

From the Agatha Christie books in which no detective appears. The heroine craves adventure and lands into one when she witnesses an accidental death in the tube station.

Detective-less Agatha Christie Books. While The Light Lasts is a MUST read.

Ordeal by Innocence (Read it here)

‘What was the matter with him? Was it – that he couldn’t hate her any more because she was dead? So that was Death . . . He felt lost without his hatred – lost and afraid.’

Something which you can pass up. Very few of Agatha Christie books which is not exciting enough to have on your shelf!

While the Light Lasts (Read it here)

‘The wall was growing up all around him now – ‘the curtain soft as silk’, the curtain wrapping him round, stifling him a little, but so soft, so sweet! . . . The wall was very high now, shutting out all those other things – those dangerous, disturbing things that hurt – that always hurt.’

Collection of stories, ironic and beautiful. These are not detective cases but short stories published in magazines and newspapers over the years. Must Read. The best was The Edge and Within a Wall.

Have you read any of the above? Are you a fan of Agatha Christie? Which one is your favourite?

I haven’t read any Agatha Christie books. But reading the above plots and quotes from the books looks really interesting… 🙂 Btw, have you read any Perry Mason? They too are similar, very interesting murder plots. I love them… 🙂

My favourite is And Then There Were None… It actually terrified me at the end and thats a first for a mystery novel lol.. I liked Crooked House too.. Now reading The Secret Adversory.
I too like Poirot more than Miss Marple. He reminds me of Holmes…
You should read The Mysterious Affair at Styles. Its Poirot’s first case and its good too…
Dame Christie is one of my all time favourite authors.
