If you are skin care fanatic, you would know how it is to have your shelves overflowing with products. I was just cleaning my dresser a few days back and I found I have quite a collection of face masks. All masks I have are clay based. I wish I had something soothing and hydrating to use after a long day in sun and do not have to struggle while taking off. Any recommendations?
Sheet masks are a good choice in those cases but somehow they have never really worked for me, even the super-expensive ones from SKII.
Face Masks on My Shelf
Just Herbs Petal Soft Anti-Tan Rose Face Pack
Price : Rs 445 for 150gms
I had bought this with a lot of hope but it does nothing special. I was hoping it would get rid of the tan. It just makes the face look fresh. I like to use it in the shower now as a morning cleanser sometimes and washing off is not exactly easy, just like with other clay masks.
Just Herbs Instaglow Almond Complexion Pack
Price : Rs 445 for 150gms
I was hoping this would be a creamy mask but it also turned out to be a mud mask. Again nothing much, just makes face look fresher.
The Body Shop Himalayan Charcoal Purifying Glow Mask
Price : Rs 1,895 for 75ml
It smells divine! But, getting it washed off is a pain. The mask has green tea leaves for scrubbing which create a mess on the bathroom floor. It dries of in a good 15-20 minutes but taking it off needs patience. The scrubbing might get harsh sometimes. The mask feels cooling on skin and may sting in sensitive areas. It leaves the skin brighter and feeling cleaner.
LÓreal Paris Pure Clay Masks Set
Price : Rs 1600 for 50gms of Detox and Brighten, 45 gms each of Exfoliate and Refine and Purify and Mattify
I found the products interesting but turns out we do not get the best ones in India! I so want the blue and the yellow mask from the range. These come as the multi-masking routine which I did try out but they dry out too quicker than you can finish applying them.
I like the Detox and Brighten best from the lot. The greyish black looks nice slathered on the face, leaves skin really fresh and glowing. It is a little stubborn to take off when completely dry and you have to use a wash cloth or waste a lot of water.
I did not enjoy the other two – Exfoliate and Refine and Purify and Mattify – face masks. The exfoliating masks and drying and heavy masks are now turning me off. Though, I do have to mention Purify and Mattify does leave the skin brighter and fresher though it stings like crazy on dry or cracked skin.
I probably would not be doing full reviews for these products unless I am super blown by them. And, I will update the post as and when I get new products in my stash.
So, what face masks do you have lying around? Which one is your favorite? Do you like using hydrating masks or clay based masks?

Hi Swati
Its such a pleasure to find your post in mail in mornings every now and then. Gives me a pick me up for the rest of the day. Especially when you are reviewing something expensive on my wishlist which isn’t so extraordinary afterall.;) Glad to find one of my favourite books under the mask:D

thanks 🙂 oh, really! I have been trying to read this book since I was in 12th! And, finally got around reading it now. have to say, it is one of the most hard-hitting ones I have come across and I really like Scarlett’s transition and growth. btw, which product was on your wishlist?

The body shop one 🙁 but they are toooo expensive for me right now.
You know you can do an article on “affordable equivalents of high end products” if you have come across any.

hey. I would recommend the british rose instead though I love the smell of this one. british rose is hydrating and soothing. clay is too drying in the longer run. I have long since thought the article you suggested but somehow things do not work out that well for me so it is like i end up buying the expensive ones! or, may be I am just attuned to that mindset now!! I tried aroma magic masks because they were so highly raved and did not find them good enough 😐 but, I will definitely keep a look out like you said.

Love to see your collection of face masks. I like using nourishing masks more than clay masks. Currently using Utkarshini’s Kashmiri Cleansing Grains which contains a blend of oats, saffron, coconut water, chironji seeds, etc. Also have some other packs in my shelf like Artisanal Skincare Vanilla Cinnamon face pack, The Nature’s Co Corn Exfoliating Face Pack, etc…
