My hair after cysteine treatment
Do you like it? I do like that it is soft and shiny.

We watched Dil Dhadakne Do yesterday night finally! And, I am absolutely in love with Priyanka Chopra. I had forgotten how amazing she can be on screen and she did do justice to her role. And, the chemistry between her and Ranveer Singh was just amazing! I wish I had a brother 😀 And, the extremely simple conversations and quirky dialogs made my day. And, the expressions are just to die for 😀 Btw, watch out for the dog 🙂

On the other hand, Tanu weds Manu 2 was great as well but not this good!

Cysteine Treatment

And, let me start with my hair. As I mentioned last week, I got the Cysteine treatment done from Lakme. Well, the story was this – I wanted to get my colored at all costs and I went to the salon for it. And, then, the stylist says no because my hair is too frizzy and rough and the color would not stay. And, then, he recommended me to get the cysteine treatment which is apparently completely organic and is healthy for hair. So, I just said yes to it without thinking much and let me say that I did not know anything about it then. And, btw, let me say that it is extremely expensive.

Well, basically, when I read about the treatment after coming back from the salon, I found that is an alternative protein treatment which is more of hair smoothing treatment than straightening one. And, I am happy to say that my hair is not straight because I would look horrible in it. It has become naturally wavy and healthy but that is to be yet seen!!

Cysteine is a hair protein which is a component of keratin. And, this treatment is quite popular right now because it is more gentler on hair and does not make hair poker straight. I felt it is more of a hair smoothing treatment. The results are supposed to last for 6 months and more if hair is taken care of properly.

Results

My hair was wavy and straight and soft, extremely soft. And, yes, it was frizzless and still is. And, more manageable and easy to comb.

The First Week

Well, after a salon treatment and first few washes, my hair was doing pretty well so no complaints there. But, its too soon to say anything. Btw, since my hair is fine and this makes hair straighter and frizzless, hair does tend to get limp and dirty soon enough so washing hair on alternate days is a must.

And, now on no DIY’s!

So, because of this treatment, I have to use only deFabulous conditioner and shampoo and Schwarzkopf hair mask which is a little boring. And, I can not even oil my hair which is really sad. I miss the hair oiling sessions and trying out new products. So, that makes me a little sad.

Anyways, so, this what I did in May for my hair. In fact, this treatment was done just on 29th. Next month onwards I shall do a monthly round up of how my hair is doing and will let you know if it is really helpful to get the treatment done.

Have you ever got a cysteine treatment done?

hey Anusha. how you doing? thanks a lot for your kind words!

it is 7k for the treatment and other things make it around 10-13 depending on which salon you go to. i got it done from lakme. its called cysteine infusion only. it is supposed to be completely organic and till now i have not yet seen any issues with my hair but I would first see for few months how it goes and then only suggest it to someone!!

        The cons
The actual cost of the treatment is 7000 Rs for hair 4-5 inches below shoulder level. The after costs are the ones that would dig a hole in your pocket. You are supposed to use the Defabulous shampoo and Defabulous conditioner, each of which costs 1200, and they wouldn’t last more than 2 months.
The serum from Amazon series also falls in that price range.
You have to wash your hair every alternate day as it gets very very oily.
And the more you wash the more the treatment wears off.
        The pros
Your hair becomes smooth without the artificial poker straight look.
People will start complimenting you on your hair because it looks so naturally shiny and healthy.
You wont have to spend more than 5 minutes on styling your hair since there are NO tangles.
After 6 months ypu would find yourself running to the salon to get another cysteine done!!

The Cysteine treatment is all organic? I have never heard of it. First time, hearing on your blog. Very interesting to see how smooth it has made your hair. It’s so much easier to have manageable hair but I always worry about chemicals.

hey Coral. yup, even I had heard it for the first time but when I googled I found its the same treatment which is named as hair serenity service by lakme and it was reviewed by bhumika and cynthia on their blogs. yup, even I am worried about chemicals but apparently it is a completely organic treatment so no need to worry about that!! and, then, one has to use sls free shampoos and conditioners and everything else so I think it might really help but even then I am taking my own time and shall recommend it only after I am completely satisfied 🙂 for now, it definitely is amazingly soft and shiny!

If your hair has been subjected to keratin straightening or colouring then this is the best treatment you could go for.

I have done the same treatment in Lakme hyderabad 3 weeks back and it had the same effect as you have described. BUT, now I moved to Chennai and its been a week and i see lot of changes in my hair, it started getting slowly frizzy and curly..Is this effect can be due to rainy and humid weather here? Please advise as am so worried if this treatment will last alteast 3-4 months..

There ‘s definitely something wrong with the cystein treatment you had done. I have the frizziest hair in the world and I live in Kerala where the weather is humid. Yet my hair stayed frizz free for at least 5 months.

hi. it will not make your hair straight. it will just restore cysteine protein in your hair so the texture of your hair remains same. try asking the hair stylist about his opinion and then you can take a decision.

hi Nivedha. okay, which shampoo are you using? and, how is your hair doing? and, which conditioner did you buy? mostly, I would say the products you use after the treatment determine how long it is going to last in your hair. I would strongly suggest the DeFab products, cysteine or not! they are damn for hair and not that expensive.

Also how long I need to wait to get my hair coloured.

    Hi Swati,
Indeed, your hair looks fabulous. I have extremely dry hair and it is quiet curly too..yes i do have a big bunch of hair. I have straightening(permanent) 7 times, which has destroyed my hair a lot. Well now the whole thing is grown off. Now i frequently use the straightner or the blow dryer to control my hair. With the use of all the heat , the hair has lost all its shine and just looks like a hay stack. I am just worried that, after the treatment would my hair feel limp and completely laid down or poker straight because that is not the look i want. I just want to control frizz and look natural. Please suggest. I plan to do it in the Lakme Salon in Bangalore.
And I am confused if I can tie my hair back into a pony(like I usually do) after the treatment.
Would Tresseme Keratin shampoo be fine to use after the treatment, because I heard we are supposed to use Sulfate free shampoo.
Would be great to get an opinion from you. Thank you! 🙂

hi Faiza. sorry for the late response! it lasted for a few months, probably 4-5. it really depends on how you care for your hair and differs from person to person and also how the stylist does it. in fact, my stylist had recommended hair spas every 30-45 days even after the treatment and I think those are necessary as an after care though I did not get it done!! so, did you get it done? did you like it?

I just got this done before diwali but I did not get the acai oil serum from the salon. Serums generally make my hair go dirty real fast. Just wondering if that would make a big difference on the maintenance of my hair. Also, can you please tell which Schwarzkopf hair mask you were recommended by the salon and how often do you need to use it. Thanks.

I was given this color freeze hair spa which is pink in color. it is good and I was asked to use it once a week. it really helped a lot.

I have done my Cysteine tretament at ENRICH SALON, Mumbai in Nov 6th. And yesterday thet did my hair wash and suggested me Kerastase shampoo worth 2200/- and De fabulous conditioner worth 1100/-. But i see my hair as very straight as if i have done smoothening or straightening treatment. does hair tips look very straight post cysteine treatment as my hair before treatment was damn curly and unruly wavy hair with friziness. They charged me 9200/- for treatment and 3300/- for products. I am unhappy with this straight hair as they said it would be same volume and curls/wavy just texture of hair would be smooth.

hi Ramyashree. sorry for delay in replying. i am confused. you mentioned you got it done on 6th so they would have washed your hair on 8th or 9th. or, you mean 26th?
as far as I know, it is a natural treatment which does not really have anything to straighten hair. also, may be, the product is not washed off properly. so, do you shampoo tomorrow. the wave will come back with subsequent washes. do not worry it would not remain straight. also, did they iron your hair after washing it off. also, it is a pricey treatment. seems like they have increased them. but, yeah, my hair stylist had asked me to use defab shampoo only which is half the cost and really worked well for my hair. try going back to them and ask what exactly is wrong. they should entertain your complaints.

Only i didnt get the serum planning to use my Loreal serum post wash. i am now panicked that i cant oil my hair for 3 months. My dry and frizzy hair will get worse when this effect fades off. 🙁 But from your link i see you say you can use the hair tonic. the stylist told me dont use oil or this effect will fade of earlier than 3 months. Should i be trying the Biotique Mountain Ebony Fresh for my scalp or some Ayurveda products. Please advice. i really want to maintain this and at the same time ensure i am not damaging my scalp and roots with no oil for 3 months.

hey Anaga. don’t worry at all. first thing is good maintenance of hair. make sure you are gentle with your hair while washing and diligent with conditioning. use deep conditioner whenever you have time or possible, at least once a week. your hair will not get worse after the effect fades. you can use oil as long as you are not using a lot of it. just a thin sheen of oil is more than enough and use oil on the scalp. mainly oil helps only the scalp and not the ends so make sure you apply oil properly on the scalp. you could use cotton ball to help you apply oil better. and, yes, I did use the hair tonic. it did not do any damage. i would apply it post wash to help my hair growth. I would definitely recommend biotique. It has worked really well for me. and, yes, I would also suggest a wooden comb. my personal suggestion is from body shop. wooden comb changes hair texture like no other. let me know if you need anything else 🙂

I would not suggest any home coloring kit because once I did it on my hair and my hair got really damaged. instead, go for a professional coloring. the salon hair color products are also different and more gentle on hair. and, get hair spas done regularly to maintain hair smoothness. if possible, do check out cysteine treatment depending on your budget. it really improves hair a lot. hope this helps 🙂

hi Manu. yes, the effect of cysteine stays only till you have a new hair growth. so, the new hair obviously does not have the protein and grows just like your hair texture is. I am assuming that your hair growth is less than 1/4th of your hair length. it is better to wait till you have almost half of your hair length growth before you go again for cysteine for long lasting results. are you happy with the service you had earlier? if yes, you could go back to the same place and if no, try out a good salon in your city. I got it done at lakme but it does not really matter where you go to, what matters is your hair stylist. if you do not have one, get some normal hair service before hand and see if you like the person and then you can go for cysteine with that stylist. hope this helps 🙂

Hi Andra! Sorry for this late reply. In fact, it is advised to color hair after getting this treatment done so that the hair is not damaged as much and color also stays for long. You can also go for baylage treatment which involves plastic wraps to let the color develop instead of foils. It is quite gentle as compared to foils which is a good conductor of heat. Hope this helps 🙂

Dear Swathi , reading thru your cysteine story I felt I was reading about myself. My stylist too convinced me to get it done.
    Pros:
    1) Super smooth nearly straight hair without that artificial poker straight look
    2) Compliments galore with friends oohing and aahing over my hair.
    3) No frizz, no tangles…hence zero time and energy needed to spend on hair care. Hell…u don’t even have to comb your hair.
    Cons:
    1) Highly expensive- Rs 7000 for actual procedure…Rs 3500 for after hair care products.
2)I miss my hair oiling routines and experimenting with other hair products. NO PRODUCT OTHER THAN Defabulous shampoo and conditioner is to be used.
    3) I limited my hair washing to once a week to prolong the effects of the treatment( my stylist said the more you wash the more you strip the hair of the treatment) AND to prolong the shampoo which is TOO expensive. But a day after my wash, my hair becomes oily as hell. So my hair falls flat on my scalp, sticking to it limply.
DILEMMA- Should I wash my hair on alternate days and look like a diva or wash once a week and save on money.
If you are willing to rack your brains 24/7 on the above mentioned factors, then go for it.
Whether or not it would last 7 months as they claim, I will let you know later.

so true! but, guess what, I found out that I could actually oil my hair. the shampoo is great at removing the oil as well. and, honestly, I loved cysteine but yes it is expensive!!!
