Happy Weekend folks!! Hope you had a great Saturday. I know I skipped yesterday because I wanted to provide you respite from the event and also to give time for the hair cut and getting a few essential oils!
And, now that it is Sunday, we can spend the entire day on hair care unless you have something planned up for today in which case I would really urge you to spend at least half hour doing what ever I have listed down today.
Pre-Wash Hair Treatment
For all those who have subscribed for the event, you would remember filling up a hair profile form. From that, I could understand one thing – MANY of you are unwilling to spend time in salons for hair care and instead would prefer to do something on a bit of home stuff instead.
So, I have designed the hair care routine keeping the point in mind. Actually, the routine is very simple. You have to choose one home remedy which has worked for you till date or something which you would like to try out. And, do it.
My preference is egg treatment. But, for those who are egg-averse, there is curd. You can also opt for the henna treatment.
Apply either of them on the scalp and hair length, leave for at least half hour or at most two hours. Follow up with a hair wash and let your hair air dry. Do not skip the conditioner. Opt for regular conditioner instead of the intensive hair treatment.
After Wash Hair Care Routine
The after care routine is just as important as the pre wash.
Scalp Treatment
You would have noticed the market is now flooded with scalp vitalizers or scalp treatments. You can also concoct some simple ones at home like green tea!
Grab any of them, pour a table spoon in a bowl, apply on the scalp using a cotton ball and cover entire scalp with it.
This helps with dry scalp and controls the itch and also helps with dandruff.
Leave-in Treatment
If you have an aloevera plant at home, take the gel and apply it all over your hair. It is the best treatment for your hair.
Otherwise, take 2-3 drops of your hair oil (or if you have the exotic ones like apricot, grapeseed or argan) and apply it along your hair length concentrating on the hair ends. It does not weigh your hair down so you do not have to worry about it!!
The above quantity is for shoulder-length hair. Adjust it according to your hair length and density.
This is all for this week. I shall share another way of weekend hair routine next week 🙂 Happy Weekend folks!

hi swati,
fantastic routine. love ur write ups to core. i just wanted to know if green tea should be applied post wash and then is to be left on hair to dry? after that, aloevera gel is to be applied as a leave in? i tried using coffee and honey as conditioner, but my hair shedded a lot as compared to dove conditioner that i use :-/ i have hair way past my waist but had a bad hair fall for the past 2-3 years. bit in control now. so i am always on the look out for natural remedies. n ur blog is my hair-care bible! good job gal. n amahhzing that u are finding time to do it post marriage as well. huh…so lonnng comment ,guess shud stop now. :p
Swati says
hi Pia. thanks a lot for your kind words.
yes, green tea should be applied post wash. yes, aloevera gel is applied after the wash as well 🙂 the gel initially makes your hair wet but leave it on for 15 minutes and it dries off. try it sometime when you are not planning to go out so that any problem can be fixed right away 😉
reg. the coffee+honey thing, did you make the coffee concoction and mix it with honey. instead of applying it that way, use it as a last rinse by mixing a table spoon of the mixture in a mug of water. that is pretty helpful actually! and, btw, for the hair fall, do try to eat healthily. most of the time that solves all the problems. eat more of proteins 🙂

and, thanks for encouragement. initially post marriage i had stopped blogging. it took me almost a year to settle down and start blogging seriously 🙂

Hi Swati,
I had earlier written to you about my query regarding good mild shampoos and conditioners for dry frizzy hair. Also i just have one fourth of my hair volume that i used to have in my twenties. Also i am looking for natural hair washes. So please help me out with my issues
Warm Regards
Kirti
Swati says
hi Kirti. I am so sorry if I did not respond to your query. have been pretty busy with the blog lately!!
I can not really suggest any good shampoo and conditioner for your hair as I have not come across one. I can only say that you can try out organic surge. it is sls-free and did work well for my hair but I am still searching for my shampoo 🙂

And, reg. hair volume, I am doing this one month to healthy hair event on the blog so do check out the posts. I have started with the basic needs for healthy hair growth. growing hair is a exhaustive process which needs your time and dedication and I can also point out to:

many thanks swati for clearing it up. i had used coffee, honey and warm water together and applied for sometime…and then shampooed. yeah..actually i had a very simple routine but as i moved to places almost every week, things got out of control. its better now,but the harm is quite visible. 🙂 hope ur writings help ppl across and u be blessed with efficacy to manage it well always.

thanks a lot Pia for the kind words 🙂
try for simple hot oil treatment mixed with castor oil and then opt for the scalp treatments. they really work very well!! most of the time they are enough to remove the damage and yes do not forget the hair cut! I know it is heart breaking but there is really nothing you can do about it 🙂 getting rid of the damage and starting afresh is the easiest way to get back healthy hair.

Hi, I really liked this routine. I think the green tea for the scalp was a super idea
I used an egg-based mask I found on youtube. Never thought of combining milk & egg- it turned out really good, so I thought I would share the link

will check out the video soon. yes, milk can be mixed with egg as well but did not try it.

hi swati,
i did the weekend care and found that aloevera gel leaves a slight white cast on the hair post drying. i was thinking probably cantheridine oil at the ends, small quantity might be good. i have switched over to cantheridine oil,its base is groundnut oil,i suppose. it is used extensively in bengal for hair shedding. i also add a few drops of clove oil to it. my ends are dry, scalp is oily. pl suggest. thanks.
Swati says
hi Pia. oh! that’s weird. when I did it, it did not leave any cast on my hair 🙁 did you try brushing it off? may be it had dried and turned flaky?
also, catheridine oil is very thick. instead try using coconut oil at the ends. just a drop of it should be enough 🙂 yeah, i have used catheridine but it has been too long. i remember it being very thick but do not know if it has changed recently. it was recommended by my friend long back for great hair.
for oily scalp, otherwise try using aloevera gel before hair wash. also, try mixing a table spoon of Vinegar in your shampoo, not more than that coz it would cause dryness. it would definitely help. try it and let me know how it goes.
and, do tell me how it goes 🙂

Hi Pia, my hair type is similar to yours- oily scalp +dry ends, I find that I cannot use pure aloe vera gel on my hair, it makes hair crunchy & sometimes leaves a deposit as well. I usually dilute it with filtered water and then over that I add a tiny bit of oil to seal it in. Try and distribute it as evenly as possible. Since aloe vera is a humectant, how your hair reacts with it will actually depend on humidity of the air, which is why sealing is a must.

ohk, so seems like aloevera reacts differently for different types of hair. it does make hair crunchy sometimes but massaging it in helps relieve my issue!
yes, sealing in aloevera is must. thanks for the inputs 🙂

Hi Swati,
I have been looking for something like this since long time. I appreciate your efforts and ideas. I will surely try this and will let you know if it works. Thanks in advance. I am fighting hard to get long and thick hair, not to forget smooth.
I have a question, I usually do hot oil treatment with olive oil, almond oil and coconut oil. I wear shower cap for an hour after this and then shampoo. So can I do this along with weekend treatment such as apply curd, then wash it, then do hot oil treatment and then shampoo followed by scalp treatment and leave-in treatment?
Waiting for your response.
Swati says
hi Mohini. sorry for responding so late! i would say if you want to do deep conditioning, do it without oil because oil creates a layer on hair and does not let it absorb anything else. also, beware that curd can be drying sometimes so do not use it every weekend.
