My Hair Diaries – July 2012

Swathy · August 10, 2012 · 41 Comments

This month’s hair!!

As I had mentioned in my last month entry that I am discontinuing the treatment I was on and going through the same routine using over-the-counter products. Lets see how did it go?

When I looked at the above snap, my initial thought was that my hair is not looking that bad but when I compare it with my during-treatment hair, I was shocked!! And, felt a sharp pang of disappointment and exhilaration too. Disappointment that I left the treatment and exhilaration that the money was worth it πŸ™‚ Yay!! Oh btw, I need to go for trimming as well.

Changes in my Hair
  • I can definitely see difference in my hair volume, especially, on the bald spots (not exactly bald but really less hair and I guess its genetic) on the two sides of the head. Thanks to this oiling routine so I do recommend this to everyone facing hair fall and don’t have good hair growth!!
  • Since I have left the treatment products, hair is definitely less on shine!!So, yeah, that’s definitely not encouraging πŸ™
  • I need an SLS free shampoo!! Probably would give Soulflower or organic surge a try!! Let’s see.
  • Similarly, have to get rid of the stock of conditioners. Any ideas??? Nah, can’t put them on sale coz most of them are PR products or I got them for free and they are all tubs mostly so hygiene issues as well!!! Btw, if anyone in Hyderabad is interested, drop me a mail πŸ™‚
  • I have not been following the oiling routine since like two weeks!!! Have to start following it again. Also, I can say that it is different from the regular oiling even though it takes a lot of time comparatively because using cotton stimulates the scalp better and also, the cotton method applies oil to the hair and scalp in a good quantity so the hair is softer and deep conditioned every time I oil my hair.
  • Before I forget, I did face or rather saw many hairs falling during this month. Its due to the monsoons. Rainy season always causes hair fall so don’t really worry about it and check out this post on hair care tips for rainy season. But, that’s not exactly serious and will be fine within a month or two. Also, the major hair fall I saw was when I ignored washing my hair.

      How to protect yourself in Monsoons? {Guest Post}

      Swathy · August 10, 2012 · Leave a Comment

Monsoon season in India is something that everyone should strive to prepare for. Being prepared can help to prevent injury and emergency situations. Knowing how to prepare is critical because it will mean that you will have everything in place when the monsoons hit. The monsoon season in India is generally from June until September.
      Bacteria and Viruses
Monsoons bring with them bacteria and viruses. Pollutants and allergens are already heavy in cities like Bangalore, making people even more susceptible to things like the common cold and influenza. This season also creates kapha, so a strict healthy diet and adequate rest are critical to balancing this. The five most common diseases seen in monsoon season in India include:
      • Malaria
      • Cholera
      • Typhoid
      • Hepatitis A
      • Leptospirosis
The following lifestyle changes made during this season will help to keep people healthy:
      • Consume colored and green vegetables
      • Avoid any fish that is not fresh
      • Skip eating outside
      • Shower immediately after being wet
      • Stay hydrated
      • Bitter vegetables and seasonal fruits should be consumed
      • Exercise regularly
      Flooding and High Winds
Both of these are characteristic of monsoon weather. It is important to stay out of flooded areas and get to dry land. Drowning, illness and injury are all possible when being in flooded areas. High winds can cause damage, such as falling trees and even buildings. If you must venture into flooded areas, take extreme caution. Be sure to use a boat or raft and avoid any area where the water appears to be rushing.
Have a Disaster Supply Kit Ready to Go
These are not that hard to put together and they will ensure that people have what they need to ride out a particularly bad storm during this season. First, you need water. Ideally, three gallons of water should be put in this kit for each person and animal that will be using it. Food is also important. You want foods that will not require cooking. Things like fresh fruits and vegetables, nuts and other nutritious, non-cooked foods should be put in the kit. Fruit and vegetables can go bad, so be sure to keep an eye on these and have fresh ones in the kit at all times.
A first aid kit is important just in case someone gets injured. Antiseptics, antibacterial cream, bandages, tape, scissors, compression bandages and something to reduce fevers and pain can all be placed into a small, portable kit. Other important necessities include any medications that the people in the house take, flashlights with batteries and a battery-operated radio so that you can keep up with the latest weather updates.
      Lightning Strikes and Shock
Getting struck by lightning is a real threat during a monsoon. Stay away from trees, poles, high land, open fields, metal objects, pools and other bodies of water and other tall objects. Staying inside in a non-flooded area is the safest place to be. Lightning, while rare, can also strike through plumbing fixtures, so avoid showers, sinks and baths during a storm. To avoid being shocked, do not use a telephone unless it is an absolute emergency.

Dare to Change: Get up 15 minutes early

      Swathy · August 8, 2012 · 17 Comments

So, this is my second challenge for the month. And, trust me, I think I have jumped on the tougher bandwagon really early!! Coz, I am so lazy that getting up in the morning is literally a huge challenge for me. These days I am getting up at about 7:30 on average.

So, now, I shall try to get up at 7 sharp or latest by 7:15 AM

I know some of you might think that getting up at 7 is not exactly achieving a huge thing but yes, it is, for me!! I have been trying to do the same since like ages together. And, failed miserably every time. And, do check out the cartoon below πŸ™‚
I could not NOT share this one with you πŸ™‚
Btw, I am sure you guys might also be interested in how the first challenge is coming up? Well, to be honest, not really good coz this weekend I had moved and was busy with all that and really tired and then, yesterday and today, I came back from off at like 7 – 7:30 which is like really late for me.
So, all this is tiring me up coz I really do not get time to relax. And, if I can’t relax, its difficult to follow any routine. And, worst part is that I am not even able to take out time to write posts πŸ™ And, yeah, I am struggling on it right now at 10 by which time I should be reading P.G.Wodehouse and preparing for my sleep. And, honestly, I do wonder how you guys with extremely hectic schedule really manage to take time for yourself and your blogs. Kudos to all of you πŸ™‚
So, are you ready to join in for the second challenge and if you really took the first one, how did it go?
