How much oil do you apply? {Your Opinion}

hair oil in silver bowl

I didn’t know what to write for today so I thought I’ll pose a question to you all today. The premise of this question is something which I shall reveal in the following week but this question has nagged me to no ends since long.

How much oil should be applied? And, where should the oil be applied? How long should the oil be kept? Should you cover it with a shower cap or not? And, also, how should one go about applying oil or massaging the scalp? I searched on this topic and I found out that some people apply oil only to the hair length!!! Well, oil has to be applied to the roots and massage din so that it reaches the hair follicles and nourish it.
For my part, I don’t have any answers yet. And, I am confused on all accounts. So, hoping that you would solve my confusion 😉 Adios!!!PS: Do you watch Vampire Diaries? I am not, in general, a fan of VD but this season is undoubtedly the best and I am in love Klaus 🙂

    I apply oil once a week, in the roots, and I make sure that I put some extra oil in the centre of my head and pat it.
    Confession: It’s been long and I skipped oil for a couple of months. my hair has never been so bad before.

      hey Jiya…thanks for bringing that up!!! why does the patting help in the center??? hmmm…yes, skipping oil is not exactly a great idea. you can at least go for half hour massage. that also helps a lot 🙂

      oh no…that’s a big misconception many people have that if you have oily hair, you should skip oil..well, at least you can use a lighter oil for that matter and keep it for an hour or so before washing it off.
      yes, even I have noticed that keeping oil in hair overnight doesn’t really do much!! I have seen that. keeping it for 1-2 hours is good enough. what’s hibiscus gel??? I mean where did you get it from? it sounds interesting. is it a ayurvedic formulation or a commerical product?

    Well, generally oiling hair is for nourishment…yes, our mothers used it like a requirement…i mean they usually oiled hair more than we do now and we wash off the oil very often…that explains their healthy mane (of course food play a rose) and our healthy hair till we are in school when our hair is under their guidance…

    I usually apply oil to the scalp as well as hair…overnight or 1 or 2 hrs depends on the situation….i usually prefer overnight

      hey 🙂 oh yeah…I remember my mom used to keep my hair doused in oil all time!!! its not exactly a healthy practice coz of the dirt and pollution outside which makes the hair and scalp pretty dirty!! in fact, its very very necessary to use scarves and stoles to prevent the hair from getting dirty.
      you know what….whenever I go to my relative’s place, they are always like you don’t apply oil that’s why you don’t have hair and I like what??? but, yes, applying oil should definitely be done for at least 12 hours before washing it off and using a SLS free shampoo really helps though finding one is a hugeeeeeee problem.
      I prefer overnight only when I have applied oil 2-3 hours prior to going bed otherwise it all goes to the pillow instead of the follicles 😀 but, in summers, I have been using the oil just for 1-2 hours till few weeks back.
